THE JINKIND

In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Merciful.
All perfect praise are due to Allah, we worship Him and seek His help. We seek forgiveness from Him.
And we also seek refuge in Him from evil our selves and the word of our bad deeds. Whosoever Allah
has guided can never be misled and whoever He (Allah) has denied guidance can never attain any guide.
I bear testimony that He is the one, worthy of worship and non else. And that prophet Muhammad
(s.a.w) is to Him a slave and a messenger. Upon him we invoke Allah's blessings and mercy, upon his
kinship, his companions and upon all those who follow in righteousness till the end of time.
As for what follows, the best of speech is the book of Allah. The best of guidance is the guidance of
prophet Muhammad (s.a.w). The evil of matters are the newly invented ones. Anything newly invented
in the deen of Allah is an innovation. And every innovation in the deen of Allah is leading path to
misguidance. And every misguidance leads to hell fire.
The topic for discussion today is the JINKIND.
Before we proceed to do anything, we first of all need to understand the meaning of the word جن( JINN).
This word is an Arabic word, and refers to that which is covered, concealed or hidden. Reference can be
made to various verses of the Qur'an in this regard. Allah the Almighty says in the Qur'an:
(Surat Al-An'am 76). When the night covered him over, He saw a star: He said: "This is my Lord." But
when it set, He said: "I love not those that set." Jinns are covered by the sight of humans hence their
name.
Hence Allah the Almighty says: " He sees you, he and his tribe from
whence you see him not".
It should be noted that even though we don't see jinns does not mean they do not exist. The believe in
their existence is part of our faith because it is part of the believe if علم الغيب( knowledge of the hidden).
The Qur'an and Sunnah are replete with of evidence of the existence of jinns.
Origin of the jinn
Allah the Almighty created the jinns from smokeless fire. Allah mentioned of this this in the Qur'an: (وَخَلَقَ
[Surat Ar-Rahman 15]. 5. And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke. Jinns existed long before the
existence of man, Allah says in the holy Qur'an:
[Surat Al-Hijr 27]. And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. In a
hadith recorded by Imam Muslim on the strength of Aisha may Allah be pleased with her, the Prophet (
peace be upon him) said: " The angels were
created from light, the jinn we're created from smokeless flame of fire and Adam was created from from
what has been described to you [by the Qur'an].( Muslim 18/123, sharh Nawawi).
Evidence of The Existence of Jinn.
In The Light of the Qur'an:

The Qur'an categorically mentioned about the existence of the jinn in many places of different chapters,
few of which shall be mentioned here.
1) Allah mentioned of the story of the jinn and how they received the message of Prophet Muhammad
(s.a.w) and He the Almighty says:
[Surat Al-Ahqaf 29]. Behold, We turned towards thee a company of Jinn (quietly) listening to the Qur'an:
when they stood in the presence thereof, they said, "Listen in silence!" When the (reading) was finished,
they returned to their people, to warn (them of their sins).

2) Allah the Almighty called by the name Jinn in the holy Qur'an:
"O ye assembly of Jinns and men! came there not unto you messengers
from amongst you, setting forth unto you My signs, and warning you of the meeting of this Day of
yours?" ( An-am: 130).
3) Allah the Almighty says in the Qur'an regarding their interaction and relationship with men, and He
"True, there were persons among mankind who
took shelter with persons among the Jinns, but they increased them in folly". ( Al- Jinn: 6).
4) It is sufficient and worth to mention that Allah has dedicated a whole chapter of the holy Qur'an to
jinns which is known the chapter of Jinns.

In The Light of Hadith/ Sunnah
1) Imam Muslim narrated is his saheeh, on the authority Ibn Mas'ood, may Allah be pleased with him
said: We were in the company of the messenger of Allah ( may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon
him) one night, then we noticed he was missing. We searched for him in the valleys and mountain
passes, then we thought that had either been taken away( by the jinn) or killed secretly. We spent the
worst night that any people have ever spent, then when the morning was due we saw him coming from
the direction of Hira'. We said to him, O messenger of Allah, we missed you and looked for you, but we
could not find you,and we we spent the worst night that any people have spent. He said " A petitioner of
the Jinn came to me and I went with him and recited the Qur'an to them". The he went with us and
showed us their tracks and traces of their fires. The jinn asked of their provisions and he said: لكم كل عدم
" Yours is every every bone over which the
name of Allah has been mentioned, which will fall into your hands covered with flesh, and every piece of
dung is food for your animals". The messenger of Allah the said : Do not use these two things for
cleaning yourselves after relieving, for they are the food of your brothers.( Muslim: 4/170, sharh
Nawawi).

Scholars of the Arabic linguistics and grammar mentioned as relaid by the famous scholar Ibn Abdul
Barr, the Jinns are of different types base on their task and their nature. Let's consider the following:

Types of Jinns
Jinns are into three types as captured in the Hadith of the messenger of Allah, Muhammad (s.a.w).
1) Those that fly through the air
2) Those that are snakes and dogs
3) Those that stay in places and travel about.

" There are three types of jinn: one that havs wings and flies through the air, one that are snakes and
