The holy Quran serves as the best speech for it is
the speech of the creator. It also serves as the first
primary source of guidance in the religion ISLAM.
For this reason, the Quran should be of much
importance to all. Its significance should make us
accord its studies much attention. In our hands is a
brief guide as to what the field of the science of
Quran is. This will help in tackling the significant
aspects of the Quran thereby informing us as
students of as to what we need to know in
comprehending this field of Quran.
We shall extract our lessons from various books
written under this field so as to help our readers
appreciate this field of knowledge with ease. Our
reference shall be hugely on what renowned
scholars of this field wrote on this subject. We shall
reference them all in our last lesson.
We hope this will be beneficial to us all as students
of the QURAN.
May Allah guide us all. Any errors or concerns
should be channeled to us so that we work on it for
our future lessons In sha Allah. Perfection belongs
to the Almighty alone.
MEANING: The field of science of QURAN, largely
focuses on the sciences that have a direct link on
how the recitation of the Quran is carried, the
history surrounding the Quran, the meanings of and
implementation of the meanings of the Quran and
all other fields that help in appreciating the Quran.
This is a vast field with much importance to every
Muslim.

When we consider breaking this meaning of Uloom
AL QURAN into sub topics, we shall have;
• Knowledge of recitation: this explains
how the recitation of the Quran is carried
and the knowledge that helps the recitation
which is Tajweed. It also considers the
methodology of recitation (Qira’aat) it also
focuses on the etiquettes of its recitation.
Meaning what to do before reciting the
Quran.
• History of the Quran: this deals with the
knowledge of the revelation of the Quran,
the history surrounding the revelations, the
history of writing, compilation and
standardization of the QURAN.
• Understanding and implementation
of the Quran: This also deals with the
reasons behind the revelation of the verses
of the QURAN, the knowledge of
interpretation of the meanings (tafseer), the
abrogated verses, the language of the
Quran and associated field which helps in
understanding the meanings of the Quran (
USOOL Tafseer) and many more

This field helps in clearing one's ignorance
associated with Quran. This will then go a long way
to help us appreciate all aspects associated with
Quran thereby informing us the miraculous nature
of the Quran. It is the only field that ensures an
extensive understanding of the QURAN
HISTORY OF THE FIELD
The field of science of QURAN started during the
time of the Prophet. Since it was His time that the
Quran was revealed. This continued with
companions after his departure and continued to be
passed on from generation to generation. The field
was initially a separate one until all were gathered into a single field of knowledge (Uloom
ALQURAN).
