sent us Mercy to the World. May Allah grant us Jannah. Ameen.
All Praises to Allah for giving me such special opportunity
to lecture you on major sin and minor sin in Islam. May Allah protect us from
all kinds of sin Amen. But before I
start I will greet you by saying:
السلام عليكم ورحمةالله وبركاته✋
First of all, to know major sin and minor sin, we need to
first know what is sin before we know the difference kind of sin we have.
What is Sin?
Sin is any act done To disobey Allah Almighty and to oppose
His Will. When this is done then that means we have sinned.
Several different words are used in the Quran to describe
sin. They are as follows:
1) Zhanb (الذنب)
2) Ithm (الإثم)
3) Khati’ah (خطيء)
4) Zhulm (الظلم)
All this words are used for sin in the Quran. May Allah protect
us from all kinds of sin. Ameen
WHAT ARE MAJOR SIN AND MINOR SIN?
The Quran describes these sins throughout the text and
demonstrates that some sins are more punishable than the others. A clear
distinction is made between major and minor sins in Quran (53:31–32), where Allah says:
"Those who avoid great sins and Al‑Fawaahish
(illegal sexual intercourse) except the small faults (lamam)…”..
The majority of scholars are of the view that 'lamam'
indicating that if an individual stays away from the major sins, then he/she
will be forgiven of the minor sins. May Allah forgive us. Ameen
WHAT ARE MINOR SINS?
Minor sins are the
kind of sins which are not directly stipulated in the Holy Qur’an or there is no any certain punishment promised
for them while they are sins.
Minor sins are even more than dangerous than major sin since
the minor sins lead you to major sins. And those who Think lightly of minor
sins leads them to doom. A hadith
Narrated from Abdullah ibn Mas‘ood
(may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (P b u h ) said:
Beware of these sins that are regarded as insignificant, for they will
accumulate until they destroy a man.” let us be more conscious
about the minor sins to be save from the plot of the devil.
قال الشاعر:
A poet spoke well when he said:
"Do not think of minor sins as insignificant, for
mountains are made out of pebbles".
When a person is very negligent with regard to the matter of
committing minor sins, persisting in
minor sins makes them major sins, which means that they are no longer minor
faults. Let do well to keep away from that kind of sins. May Allah guide us.
Ameen.
WHAT ARE MAJOR SINS?
The best way to define it is any sin that is accompanied by
a warning of punishment or being cursed by Allah. The Major sins are so very
dangerous that the result of it is seen here and also on the judgement day.
There are some sins which is so great and severe that the
Prophet peace be upon him mentioned it in a hadith. They are called the deadly
sin that caused ruin.
ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻫُﺮﻳﺮﺓَ ﺭَﺿِﻲَ
ﺍﻟﻤﺤﺼَﻨﺎﺕِ ﺍﻟﻤﺆﻣﻨﺎﺕِ ﺍﻟﻐﺎﻓﻼﺕِ )
[ ﺻﺤﻴﺢ ]
Al-Bukhaari and Muslim narrated from Abu Hurayrah (R a) that
the Prophet (P b u h ) said: “Avoid the
seven sins that doom a person to Hell.”
It was said: What are they, O Messenger of Allah? He said:“Associating others with Allah (shirk ); witchcraft
(sihr ); killing a soul whom Allah has forbidden us to kill, except in cases
dictated by Islamic law; consuming riba; consuming orphans’ wealth; fleeing from the battlefield; and
slandering chaste, innocent women.”
The following are some of the major sins that we need to
stay away from as said in the hadith. They are:
1. Joining other gods with Allah (5:72).
2. Disappointing from Allah’s forgiveness (12:87).
3. Bothering parents (17:23).
4. Killing an innocent person (4:93).
5. Slandering chaste women (24:23).
6. Eat up the property of orphans (4:10).
7. Usury (2:275).
8.Fornication (25:68)
9.intoxicants (5:90)
10. Stealing (5:38)
And some other.
THE EFFECT OF SIN
1. Sin deprive a
person of the provision of Allah. In
Musnad Ahmad it is narrated that Thawbaan said: “The Messenger of Allaah (P b u
j) said: ‘A man is deprived of provision
because of the sins that he commits.’”
(Narrated by Ibn Maajah, 4022.
2. Sense of alienation
that comes between a person and his Lord, and between him and other people. One
of the pious salaf (righteous
predecessors) said: “If I disobey
Allaah, I see that in the attitude of my riding beast and my wife.”
3. Things become difficult for him, so that he does not turn
his attention towards any matter but he finds the way blocked or he finds it
difficult. By the same token, for the one who fears Allaah, things are made
easy for him. Sin is a sin no matter how small it is. Don't look at how small the
sin is but look at how Great is the One being sinned against. Stay away from
all kinds of sin so that you will meet Allah in peace. Every son of Allah
commit sin but the best of sinners are those who seek forgiveness. May Allah
protect us from sin. May Allah forgive us and grant us Jannah. Ameen. I rest my
pen.... جزاكم الله خيرا... آمين....🤝
