THE CONCEPT OF HALAAL AND HARAAM

Asalaamu alaikum brethren.
Non deserves to be worshipped except Allah and our Noble Prophet Mohammed is the slave and servant of Allah. We ask for Allah's protection and forgiveness in all matters.
Am honoured to once again present on a topic like this and as a student of knowledge I pray Allah forgive my mistakes and rewards all of us for that which we say right. Amen
Our topic for today is HALAAL AND HARAAM
By description HALAAL is something that there is no sin in doing ; It is permissible to do that thing.
HARAAM is something that is prohibited and one gets punishment from Allah for doing it.

I must add that something might be HARAAM for someone but Halaal for another
 Because of:
1. The time he does it
2. The manner in which he does it
3. Whom he does it to etc
Example is sex. It is HARAAM for some people but not HARAAM for others based on the points above.
Only Allah commands us on what is Halaal and HARAAM and hence if you claim something is HARAAM your prove should be the book of Allah and the Sunna (hadith) of the Prophet.
Allah says
The command (or the judgement) is for none but Allaah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him…”
[Yoosuf 12:40]

We also need to understand that HARAAM and Halaal are not to make life difficult for us. Rather they are rather aimed at purifying us in the sight of Allah.
Allah does not put these limits (HARAAM or Halaal) in order to make things difficult. Allah says in the Quran
Allâh does not want to place you in difficulty, but He wants to purify you, and to complete His Favour to you that you may be thankful
[al-Maaidah 5:6].

How does staying away from HARAAM purifies you?
Staying away from HARAAM purifies you and sends you closer to Allah. Look at the hadiths below On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (ra):
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said,
"Allah the Almighty is Good and accepts only that which is good. And verily Allah has commanded the believers to do that which He has commanded the Messengers. So the Almighty has said: "O (you) Messengers! Eat of the tayyibat [all kinds of halal (legal) foods], and perform righteous deeds." [23:51] and the Almighty has said: "O you who believe! Eat of the lawful things that We have provided you." [2:172]" Then he (ﷺ) mentioned [the case] of a man who, having journeyed far, is disheveled and dusty, and who spreads out his hands to the sky saying "O Lord! O Lord!," *while his food is haram (unlawful), his drink is haram, his clothing is haram, and he has been nourished with haram*, so how can [his supplication] be answered?
 [Muslim]

Today we see people who will be annoyed when a colleague of theirs draws their attention to a HARAAM activity they are doing.

It's unfortunate because the Prophet has warned us against this in the hadiths below. 👇🏾
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (ra):I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say,
"What I have forbidden for you, avoid. What I have ordered you [to do], do as much of it as you can. For verily, it was only the *excessive questioning and their disagreeing with their Prophets that destroyed [the nations] who were before you*."
[Bukhari; Muslim]

We have some people who will make make even Halaal a HARAAM on themselves or vice versa and sometimes they even forbid others from doing that which is Halaal. Allah warns against such individuals in the glorious Quran.
And say not concerning that which your tongues put forth falsely: This is lawful and this is forbidden., so as to invent lies against Allaah. Verily, those who invent lies against Allaah will never prosper.
[al-Nahl 16:116]
May Allah guide us towards killing of pride. It is when we kill our pride that we can accept correction. This is the little on HARAAM and Halaal.
Asalaamu alaikum

THE WAY FORWARD OF GHANA MUSLIM STUDENTS ASSOCIATION(GMSA)

Asalaamu alaikum
Indeed, there is non worthy of any form of worship except Allah and I bear witness that our prophet Mohammed is the slave and Messenger of Allah
The Ghana Muslim Students over the years have has transformed a lot of students into better Muslim especially the SHS students. Despite its the leadership challenges it has become a great tool for the preservation and propagation of Islam.
Brethren in Islam, our topic for today is "THE WAY FORWARD OF GMSA"
The way forward of gmsa is not so different from the way forward of Islam at large.
Allah says in the glorious Quran in an ayah popularly known to many Muslims. Allah says 👇

And hold fast all together by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you) and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allahs favor on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love so that by His grace ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of fire and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make his signs clear to you: that ye may be guided.
(Al-e-mran Verse 103)

Before I proceed I would want to say that the GMSA is not an association for any sect or group of people in Islam.
May Allah increase us in patience and understanding.
The are some categories of people who to a larger extent cause GMSA to fail in its mission.  These individuals are the learned and the leaders (executives).
There is one serious challenge we face in gmsa that needs to be handled with a lot of caution. This is the issue of sects. Our whole presentation therefore will focus on this issue.
In most schools you find some group of students who do not want anything to do with GMSA because how these categories of people handle issues in GMSA.
In the attempt of these leadership or the imams to solve certain challenges they end up causing a lot of harm to the Muslim community. Their challenge are a huge one, balancing between preserving the unity of the Unman and the sanctity of the religion.
There are a lot of sects in Islam and some people are associated with some of these sects but are ignorant about the dogma of the sect and how back it might be. Nonetheless that is where they find themselves. As a GMSA leader this is where you and I fail: we push such individuals away or treat them with such attitudes that makes them uncomfortable.
When these individuals decide to leave GMSA, they actually cause a lot of people to also leave GMSA with them. As a leader you need to learn to understand to respect the feelings of others.  You will hear the imams of GMSA saying "I will say the truth no matter what".
So what happened to the below.
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best.  Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided.

An-Nahl 16:12
We need to guide each other to the truth but it doesn't need to he done in away that will hurt the feelings of the individuals we are attempting to advice.
To my knowledge, some individuals we classify as haven gone wayward actually are able to pull a lot of people to follow their teachings. This is possible because they are tolerant and hence seems convincing.
Brothers and sisters in Islam,  when we decide to argue with such individuals we need to do it with a clear intention of guiding them to the right path. Most often when you see some leaders in GMSA engaging in sectorial dialog, it becomes clear the motive is to prove to the individuals how knowledgeable they (GMSA LEADERS) are above them or how stupid those individuals and their sects are.
Islam allows that we engage each other but let's remember the manner in which we don't could make it very bad. It shouldn't look like a quarrel when we engage in Sectorial discussions.  Allah commands us in the Quran
Obey Allah and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and do not quarrel among yourselves lest you lose heart and your momentum disappear. And be steadfast. Allah is with the steadfast. (8:46)
Again, our social relations with people of different sects is also very important. It forms part of the hiqma is the attempt to bring people to the way of Allah.
You need to be a little tolerant and welcome every nonsense because it's in the patience that you can transform other or make them reflect.
To the Gmsa members too, it's obvious we all come different sects and our ideologies might be different. Nonetheless, we interacts with Christians knowing they have a bad perception about us but we will fight ourselves because we think some group of Muslims are looking down on you.
I have had the privilege to see how Gmsa is run in many schools and administratively every school has a particular sect and or ethnic group that dominates the leadership.
Let me be a little specific from this point. The bone of contention is normally between Ahlul-Suna wal Jamaa and Tijaaniyyah with a little Shia contest in it. In the school these are the groups that differs when it comes to GMSA's leadership and activities.
We all need to understand from today that all the sects belongs to GMSA and hence THE ACTIVITIES OF GMSA IS NOT SUPPOSED TO TYPICAL OF A PARTICULAR SECT. Therefore GMSA shouldn't at any point be involving in actives that are particular with the Tabilic brothers or with the Tijaniyyah or any other sect for that matter.
I attended KNUST and to your surprise some colleagues of mine wouldn't want to be Associate with GMSA because they believe they like condemning things too much.
They will say everything is Haram and as such they won't associate themselves with GMSA. Just last year I had the privilege to go to KNUST to visit them and some people also complained now GMSA is weak and that Haram goes on and the leadership is being hypocritical about it.
So are you going to disassociate yourself because of any of these scenarios above?  Then you might not join any association. The same association from time to time will change based on those who lead it. Why don't you stay and make changes, convince them you need that respect as a sect.
Let the leadership of Gmsa understand you are being treated badly and you deserve better. But attempting to leave the Gmsa or to form your association isn't the way forward.
Currently, the Tijaaniyyah Muslim Students has also formed an association. Despite the fact that they have the right to do it, I see it very unfortunate. They have done this because they feel they are being sidelined, they are not being allowed to do certain religious acts.
I have personally lived with Tijaaniyyahs till date and I know they have factions or they are divided into groups and sometimes they seriously fight amongst themselves. Now that they have formed an association don't u think with time those differences that makes them fight at home  will be brought to the association they have formed?
Now, assuming the Tijaniiyah is allowed to do its activities, the Tabilic also does theirs and the Ahlul-Suna wal Jamaa also does theirs and the Shia also does it's activity then what becomes of GMSA.
We members most often start the problems we face in Gmsa and when the leadership is unable to handle it then we shift the blame on the leaders. Though we need to hit on the failure of the leader but come to think of it many of them have no leadership training. It is therefore also incumbent on us as members to exhibit self-control.
In your family they could be people of different sects, like mine but we are still family. We still stick together despite the misunderstanding.
I want you to understand from today that GMSA is for all the sects and as such they cannot activities that are know with the Ahlul-Suna or with the Tijaaniyyah or any other sect but you still belong to GMSA even if they they won't allow you people to do what you want to do.
Today the leadership is Tijaaniyyah and they do activities of the Tijaniiyah but when you go to a different school you realise the leadership is Ahlul-Suna and they are also doing activities of the Ahlul-Suna . In a different school too they also do theirs differently.
Now when you move to a different school and realise your activities are not being allowed there then you start fighting. Have you asked yourself those whom your activities didn't favour back in your previous school how they felt? Let's not be hypocritical.
Finally,  one of the problems we face in Gmsa is when a member feels he is more knowledgeable than the leaders (especially the imams).  May Allah forgive us.
You are knowledgeable than the imams then you go closer to the and give them ur support. It's very wrong when a member only sit and started punching holes in the what the leaders do. He or she disgraces the leaders in public to prove he or she is better than them or to prove the leaders don't deserve to be there.
Imam Shaafi is reported to have said if you advice him in public then u r attacking. Advising the Iman in public doesn't make people see you as a knowledgeable person but rather they see you as a controversial person.
You can go to the imam and point him in the right direction if he does something wrong and he will come himself to correct it. Be an asset and not a distraction to the leadership of the GMSA.
Frankly, the leadership of GMSA irrespective of their weakness does their best, it's a collective efforts that will end up making GMSA what we make it to be.
May Allah strengthen us in faith and increase us in patience.
Let's end here insha-Allah.
Asalaamu alaikum brethren

THE RIGHTFULL WAY OF CHOOSING A SPOUS

Asalamu alaikum
We thank Allah for yet another day and as usual I am humbled to share with you words of wisdom from our religion.
This I believe will be of benefit to me and to to you
Indeed, there is non who deserves any form of worship except Allah and our prophet Mohammed is the messenger and slave of Allah.  There is no blind fellowship except following the instructions of the prophet of Islam
 Allah says👇

"And one of His signs is that He has created for you, spouses from amongst yourselves so that you might take comfort in them and He has placed between you, love and mercy. In this there is surely evidence (of the truth) for the people who carefully think."
 (Surah 30, Verse 21)
Indeed brothers and sisters in Islam the most dangerous of people are those who enjoy bachelorhood
Choosing a spouse is the most difficult decision every Muslim can imagine. The politics of it goes way beyond just you and the lady/man you send home
Those who have really had to decide on going to ask a ladies hand in marriage will attest to the fact that at some point you get convinced you are making the right decision and then the next minute you start doubting whether you are making the right decision or not
Your parents have their own interest as to what kind of a person you bring home
They ask Questions like 👇;
1. Is she/he a Muslim
2. Is she beautiful
2. What tribe does she/he belong to . etc
3. Is he wealthy
You can't over look the family's influence in the spouse selection process. This is because their approval is what actually gives the green light
Every Muslim needs to take keen interest in the qualities a good spouse should posses and again take into consideration the family-influence in this decision making
To begin with Allah has instructed us to marry the believing women (men). When Allah's 👇🏿

And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe. And a believing slave woman is better than a polytheist, even though she might please you. And do not marry polytheistic men [to your women] until they believe. And a believing slave is better than a polytheist, even though he might please you. Those invite [you] to the Fire, but Allah invites to Paradise and to forgiveness, by His permission. And He makes clear His verses to the people that perhaps they may remember.         Al-Baqarah 2:221
Again the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) encouraged marrying women who are religiously committed, as he said 👇:
Women may be married for four things: their wealth, their lineage, their beauty and their religious commitment. Choose the one who is religiously-committed, may your hands be rubbed with dust (i.e., may you prosper).
 Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5090; Muslim, 1466
Let's be realistic about the believing woman or man issue
Looking for a believing woman/man doesn't mean you are looking for someone who is sinless. The believing women is the person who is trying to be a better Muslim
She/he could be a believer but has a little struggle in perfecting his or her iman
Again, in looking for a believer you can't overlook some very important things like how he/she smells or look. You need someone you can connect with, play with and argue with. Pick someone you can tolerate her short comings, her body odour, her attitude towards work, etc

If your believing woman or man smells in away you don't like, talks in a manner that irritates you or has a behaviour you can't cope with then please be careful. These things will see your marriage life a hell. This is very important because today most marriages are facing those problems.
Most often than not when we attempt to look for a believing woman/man we forget to consider the fact that we need a polite, respectful and understanding partner
Oh brothers and sisters in Islam, In addition , don't be selfish in your decision making. You would have to take into consideration whether your kids will appreciate the mother that you give them. Don't pick any prostitute and say " the most important thing is that you like her ".

Ask yourself if she would be a good mother for your children. Can she give you children a good upbringing etc.
Your spouse will not only be your wife but an in-law to your parents. She or he actually married your family too. Be careful in choosing someone your family has a tangible reason to dislike. They will end up frustrating her and making your marriage life a misery
Finally, there are a lot of good ladies and men out there so don't waste your time or compromise yourself for someone because the families don't approve of the two of you being together when they have a genuine concern or even if they don't have a tangible reason to.
Never try to get yourself pregnant to force their hands to allow you marry.
May Allah increase us in patience and protect our imam. Asalamu alaikum

BID'A/INNOVATIONS

I bear witness that non deserves to be worshiped except Allah and our Prophet Mohammed is the slave and Messenger of Allah.

There is no blind following or worship in Islam except following the Messenger. The Prophet is the only person we follow blindly because Allah says:

إِنْهُوَإِلَّاوَحْىٌيُوحَىٰ ,عَلَّمَهُۥشَدِيدُٱلْقُوَىٰ
He says nothing but a revelation revealed. He has been taught by one mighty in power.

Allah again advice is to follow the teaching of the Prophet.

قُلْإِنكُنتُمْتُحِبُّونَٱللَّهَفَٱتَّبِعُونِىيُحْبِبْكُمُٱللَّهُوَيَغْفِرْلَكُمْذُنُوبَكُمْۗوَٱللَّهُغَفُورٌرَّحِيمٌ
Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."

All the above verses teaches us that the best person to teach Islam or show the best way to worship Allah is the Prophet. Any other person must take what the Prophet thought and teach people.

The deen (Islam) is a well cooked religion and does not need any salt again. Anybody who puts an additional salt to the religion is spoiling it.

Allah says in the Holy Quran :

ٱلْيَوْمَأَكْمَلْتُلَكُمْدِينَكُمْوَأَتْمَمْتُعَلَيْكُمْنِعْمَتِىوَرَضِيتُلَكُمُٱلْإِسْلَٰمَدِينًاۚ
This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.

The verse above teaches us that Islam is not lacking anything, there is no better way to worship Allah that the Prophet didn't teach us. Doing anything contrary is Bidia'.

*Bidia* is an Arabic word that comes from the root Al-Bada' meaning to create something without precedence.  In English we would use the word innovation".

Hence the Prophet cautioned us against doing something Bidia'. He asked us to only worship Allah the way he has taught us to.

Hadith

يُحَدِّثُقَالَحَدَّثَنَاأَنَسُبْنُمَالِكٍ، أَنَّالنَّبِيَّصلىاللهعليهوسلمقَالَ

لَيَرِدَنَّعَلَىَّالْحَوْضَرِجَالٌمِمَّنْصَاحَبَنِيحَتَّىإِذَارَأَيْتُهُمْوَرُفِعُواإِلَىَّاخْتُلِجُوادُونِيفَلأَقُولَنَّأَىْرَبِّأُصَيْحَابِيأُصَيْحَابِي.فَلَيُقَالَنَّلِيإِنَّكَلاَتَدْرِيمَاأَحْدَثُوابَعْدَكَ"

Anas b. Malik reported Allah's Prophet () as saying:

Some persons from amongst my associates would turn to my Cistern; when I would see them and they would be presented to me, they would be detained in the way while coming to me. I would say: My Lord, they are my companions, they are my companions, and it would be said to me: You don't know what innovations they made after you.

Sahih Muslim 2304

There are two types of innovations :

1. innovation in the matter of things pertaining to our worldly life. Things like technology, electricity and transport would come under this category. this is acceptable.

2. Innovation in the religion. This is not acceptable.

Hadith

Jabir b. Abdullah said:

When Allah's Messenger () delivered the sermon, his eyes became red, his voice rose, and his anger increased so that he was like one giving a warning against the enemy and saying: "The enemy has made a morning attack on you and in the evening too." He would also say: "The Last Hour and I have been sent like these two." And he would join his forefinger and middle finger; and would further say: "The best of the speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the best of the guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. And the most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is error.

Innovation in religion is very dangerous and people feared it even before the Prophet even was born. The story of the father of the Prophet (Abdullah) tells us how dangerous innovation is.

After Abdul-Mutallib found the well of ZamZam he had only one son so he prayed if Allah gave him 10 sons he will sacrifice(kill) one for Allah. When Allah have him the 10 sons he was not allowed by his family to kill one of them (Abdullah).

He was told if he does it those after him will adopt that tradition. He finally replaced Abdullah with 100 Carmels and still today the blood money for killing someone is 100 carmels.

HOW DO PEOPLE INNOVATE

I have noticed two different ways by which people do Bidia. These are:

1. Introducing something Islam dislike.

2. Doing a good thing at a very wrong time.

Those who claim there is a good Bidia uses certain hadiths. Amongst them are 👇

First Claimed Evidence,

JareerIbnAbdullaah Al-Bujali may Allaah be pleased

with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahualayhi

wasallam said: Whoever introduces a good practice in Islaam will get the reward of performing it and that of all those who perform it until the Day of Resurrection; Whoever introduces a bad practice in Islaam will get the punishment of performing it and that of all those who do it until the Day of Resurrection.(Muslim)

But this hadith has been taken out of contest.  Reading the full hadiths makes it clear it doesn't support bringing anything new into Islam

Refutation of this claim,

The proof of this is actually to be found in the very same Hadeeth, if you were to read it all, as

JareerIbn 'Abdullaah Al-Bujali, may Allaah be pleased with him, said: "We were with the Prophet (SAW) (in the Masjid) just after dawn one day when some people entered barefooted and clad in woollen matting (or covered with sleeveless woollen blankets) with their swords hung around their necks. Most of them belonged to the tribe of Mudhar. The face of the Prophet (SAW) turned pale due to their wretched condition. Then, the Prophet (SAW) went into his house, re-emerged and commanded Bilaal to call the Adhaan, and the Iqaamah and then he (SAW) led the prayer. After the prayer, the Prophet (SAW) stood up and addressed people saying (that which translates as): O mankind! Fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allaah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allaah is ever, over you, an Observer. (An-Nisaa: 1) O you who have

believed! Fear Allaah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow and fear Allaah. Indeed, Allaah is Acquainted with what you do. (AlHashr: 18). Then, the Prophet said: Give in charity from (what you possess

of) Deenaars (gold coins) Dirhams (silver coins) a Saa

(a small measure of weight) of wheat or even a Saa of

dates. until he (SAW) said: Give, even if it as little as half a dateThereupon, a man from the Ansaar (residents of Madeenah) came with a bag of food which was so heavy that it was difficult for him to carry. Thereafter, people came successively until I saw two huge piles of food and clothes, and the Prophets face was bright as a glittering golden coin (due to his happiness). Then the Messenger (SAW) said: *Whoever introduces a good practice in Islaam will get the reward of performing it and that of all those who perform it until the Day of Resurrection; Whoever introduces a bad practice in Islaam will get the punishment of performing it and that of all those who do it until the Day of Resurrection*."(Muslim).

this is the full hadiths

This implies that if you do something good and other follow it. The innovation there is not about introducing something that isn't in Islam.

It can be seen that what was talked about in the hadiths is not something new. It is sadaka which the Prophet has already encouraged us to do

Using the word Seera as an example.

Seera means the life or story of an individual. Nontheless we have used it to mean the life or story of the Prophet Mohammed (SAW). One can then say the seera of Ali etc.

[The same way the innovation used in the hadiths doesn't mean the introducing something that has no precedence.

The second claim that they use to say there is a good Bidia is the hadiths below.

Umar ibn Al-Khattaab, may Allaah be pleased with

him, remarked upon seeing people playing Taraaweeh in congregation that: *"This is a good Bidah." (Bukhaari).

In Refuting this ImaamIbn Rajab, may Allaah have mercy upon him,

said: "Any words from the Salaf considering something

as a good Bidah were meant in the linguistic and not the Islamic sense, such as the saying of Umar, may Allaah be pleased with him, when he saw people praying Taraaweeh in congregation, that "This is a good Bidah

To conclude with,

SaeedIbn Al-Musayyib, may Allaah have mercy upon him, saw a man praying too many optional prayers before the Fajr prayer and therefore he forbade him from doing so. The man retorted: "O Abu Muhammad! Will Allaah punish me for praying?" Sa'eed replied: "No, but He will punish you for doing other than the Sunnah."

(Ibn Rajab)

From the story above we should learn to do things exactly as the Prophet thought us to. Deviating or adding something to it or subtracting from it will end up making us change the teachings of Islam.

Let's end it here for today. Assalaamualaikum

HOW TO EASILY PRESENT DA'WA AND HANDLE CLASSES ON WATSAPP

Indeed there is non that deserves to be worshiped except Allah and our noble Prophet Mohammed is his slave and servant. Our topic for this evening is HOW TO EASILY PRESENT DA'WA AND HANDLE CLASSES ON WATSUPP.
To begin with Daawa on social media is a formidable tool to reaching masses because many people if not everyone spend considerable amount of time on this social media. Nonetheless, if not properly done messages meant for dawa becomes a distraction or nuisance.
I believe many of us here have had to just scroll down a chunk of Islamic messages or post on most of our whatsapp pages without reading any of them. This probably because :
1. The message is ambiguous
2. The message is too long
3. It's too raw
4. It's a repetition
5. People mostly don't like reading.
Taking into consideration the five reasons above ,we as daees (people who do Daawa) should try our possible best to makes the Daawa suitable for the people to follow.

How do we make Daawa on whatsapp effective.
Firstly , as a daee you need to make sure you know your audience. You should know the religious positions of the individuals as well as their knowledge of Islam. This is very important for you to know how to present an information without getting them offended or without them taking the message as being ambiguous. Again to prevent ambiguity give information that can be traced. Tell them where you picked your Hadith or Ayah. *Note*:

The purpose of (Da'wa) communication is for the other person to understand and appreciate what you say. Hence don't be using big grammar.
Secondly, most people do not like reading. Some people that loose track of the essence of the message if it turns to be a long message. Make sure the message is as short and precise as possible. It's very important to be straight about what you want to say without beating around the bush.
Try to be dynamic, current and innovative in presenting the message. You should take note that people have heard the same verses or ayahs before so present it in away to make them feel it's new. You need to prepare your message on the notepad 📝 on your phone before the presentation. In that way you only copy and paste during the presentation.
Finally , I have seen a whatsapp messages that only quoted Ayats from the Quran without any explanation or motivational message included.
I am not in anyway saying the verse alive isn't a better reminder, what am trying to make you understand is that people see it too raw and as such do not pay attention to it. Make sure you explain the verse well in such a way the people will take a second look at it. Get them inspired by using beautiful speech or comment and hiqma in delivering the messages. Allah says in the Quran; An-Nahl 16:125

ٱدْعُإِلَىٰسَبِيلِرَبِّكَبِٱلْحِكْمَةِوَٱلْمَوْعِظَةِٱلْحَسَنَةِۖوَجَٰدِلْهُمبِٱلَّتِىهِىَأَحْسَنُۚإِنَّرَبَّكَهُوَأَعْلَمُبِمَنضَلَّعَنسَبِيلِهِۦۖوَهُوَأَعْلَمُبِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best.  Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided. I will end my topic here Insha-Allah. Till we meet another time.

BIOGRAPHY OF ABDUL RAHMAN R.A

Asalaamualaikum.I bear witness that Mohammed is the slave and prophet of Allah. As usual we are once again here to talk about the life of one of the companions of the Prophet Mohammed Saw.
I apologize for not being available last week .it was due to some situation beyond my control. May Allah reward our effort.
Today we will talk about the life of one of the slave of Allah.
The eighth person to embrace Islam, a Quraish and he migrated twice to Abyssinia. He was one of the ten persons (al-asharatu-l mubashshirin) who were assured of entering Paradise.
He was one of the six persons chosen by Umar to form the council of shura to choose the Khalifah after his death. His name in Jahiliyyah days was Abu Amr.
But when he accepted Islam the noble Prophet called him Abdur-Rahman - the servant of the Beneficent God. Abdur-Rahman distinguished himself in both the battles of Badr and Uhud, suffering more than twenty wounds at the latter.
He was one of the great Reciters of the Quran, Narrator of hadith and a Commander of the Muslim army.
Starting with nothing, he went on to enjoy tremendous success as a merchant, becoming the richest of the Companions. From his great wealth, Abdur-Rahman financed the Muslim armies, contributed to the upkeep of the family of Prophet Mohammed after the Prophet's death and was universally renowned for his fabulous generosity.
His name was Abdul-Rahman bin Awf bin Abdul-Harith bin Zuhrah. His nickname was Abu Muhammad. The Companion Abdul-Rahman bin Awf (R) is one of those whom Allahs Messenger (SAW) bestowed the glad tidings of Paradise.
He was an early convert. He did not conceal reversion and didnt hesitate due to fear of persecution. Abdul-Rahman bin Awf was one of the elite and chosen Companions as regards to truthfulness of belief, sincerity of the creed, fighting in the way of Allah and spending for the sake of Him.
He was a religious scholar, and the Companions (R) used to believe what he narrated from Allahs Messenger (SAW). He had a profound religious knowledge and was a gifted teacher.
He feared Allah much, even though he was one of the ten who was given the glad tidings of Paradise. He was present in all the battles. On the day of Uhud, when the Muslims fled except a few warriors, he was among those who remained to defend Allahs Messenger (SAW).
He was generous and openhanded without worrying about poverty. Even a verse was revealed for him(Al-Baqarah 2:262). He earned his wealth as a trader.
He supported the Mothers of the believers a lot. Once Aisha (R) said: May Allah the Almighty give Abdul-Rahman bin Awf from the sweet waters of Salsabil in Paradise.
His wealth increased due to the fact that: Giving charity purifies, and augments the wealth of the giver.  He used to rely on Allah first, and then his own efforts.
Muhammad (SAW) said that he was one of the most excellent Muslims. Abdul-Rahman bin Awf was one of the most dutiful to the Mothers of the believers after the death of Allahs Messenger (SAW).
Allahs Messenger (SAW) performed the prayer behind him. None acquired such a glorious deed except he and Abu Bakr.
Companions of Muhammad (SAW) confessed he was virtuous and excellent in behavior.
A hadith was Narrated by Bajalah:
That *'Umar would not take the Jizyah from the Zoroastrians until 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf informed him that the Prophet ( ﷺ ) took Jizyah from the Zoroastrians of Hajar."*

Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1587; The hadith we qouted last time when we were talking about MusabibnUmair also shows the level of faith 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf had.
Ibrahim Narrates :
Once a meal was brought to `Abdur-Rahman bin `Auf and he was fasting. He said, "Mustab bin `Umar was martyred and he was better than I and was shrouded in his Burd and when his head was covered with it, his legs became bare, and when his legs were covered his head got uncovered. Hamza was martyred and was better than I. Now the worldly wealth have been bestowed upon us (or said a similar thing). No doubt, I fear that the rewards of my deeds might have been given earlier in this world." Then he started weeping and left his food.

Sahih al-Bukhari 1275
Abdul- Rahman bin Awf (R) died in the 31st year A.H. at the age of 72.
Let's learn from the generous character of Abdul Rahman and try to emulate it in this month of Ramadan and those to come.
His character rewarded him jannah even before he died.Asalaamualaikum

INNOVATIONS IN ISLAM, BIDIA. PART 2

Assalaamu alaikum brethren in islam

Indeed none deserves worship except Allah and the prophet Mohammed, SAW, is his slave and servant.

Bidia or innovations in religion is our topic for discussion, this topic is actually so broud that i am not in the position to exhaust it today. As such we will limit to some few clarifications as possible.
Our presentation will be based on the treatise written by  ibn Rajab Al-Hambali. We pray that Allahs mercy and forgiveness find him.

In his treatise, imam Hambali defined Bidia or innovation as defined by many of the scholars. Amongst them is the definition given by Imaam Ash-Shaafi’i, may Allaah have mercy upon him, who said:

“A Bid’ah is anything that has no basis in the Qur’aan,
Sunnah or sayings of any of the companions.”

Situation 1

It is also reported that Ash-Shaatibi, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:
“(A Bid’ah) is any matter which closely resembles the Sharee’ah and is intended to be a way of worshipping Allaah."  Situation 2

Brothers and sisters in the deen, based on these definitions of bidia or innovation in religion that we will base our discussion, may Allah increase us in understanding.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated repeatedly that:

"Every newly-invented thing is a bid'ah (innovation), every bid'ah is a going astray, and every going astray will be in the Fire."
(Reported by al-Nisaa'i in al-Sunan).

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) again said:

'Whoever starts something good, and others follow his lead, will have a complete reward and a reward like that of those who followed him, without it detracting in the least from their reward. Whoever starts something bad, and others follow his lead, will bear a complete burden of sin, and a burden like that of those who followed him, without it detracting in the least from their burden.

(Reported by Ibn Maaajah in al-Sunan, no. 204

Many people turn to misunderstand this hadith to mean bringing something new. The narration above did not mean ‘whoever starts something new’ in fact, it stated that whoever starts ‘something good’.

Imaam Ash-Shaatibi, may Allaah have mercy upon him, answered those who attempt to use this Hadeeth as evidence of the permissibility of innovating he said:

"The context of this Hadeeth is that it was said in a situation where charity was being given, and charity is something already legislated.

The proof of this is actually to be found in the very same Hadeeth, if you were to read it all, as Jareer Ibn 'Abdullaah Al-Bujali, may Allaah be pleased with him, said:

"We were with the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam (in the Masjid) just after dawn one day when some people entered barefooted and clad in woollen matting (or covered with sleeveless woollen blankets) with their swords hung around their necks……………….. Then, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “Give in charity from (what you possess of) Deenaars (gold coins) Dirhams (silver coins) a Saa’ (a small measure of weight) of wheat or even a Saa’ of dates.” until he sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “Give, even if it as little as half a date” Thereupon, a man from the Ansaar (residents of Madeenah) came with a bag of food which was so heavy that it was difficult for him to carry. Thereafter, people came successively until I saw two huge piles of food and clothes, and the Prophet’s face was bright as a glittering golden coin (due to his happiness). Then the Messenger sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “Whoever introduces a good practice in Islaam will get the reward of performing it and that of all those who perform it until the Day of Resurrection; Whoever introduces a bad practice in Islaam will get the punishment of performing it and that of all those who do it until the Day of Resurrection.”"  (Muslim).

Another misunderstood hadith is that od Umar below.

‘Umar ibn Al-Khattaab, may Allaah be pleased with him, remarked upon seeing people playing Taraaweeh in congregation that: "This is a good Bid’ah." (Bukhaari).

What is the meaning of the hadith above?

Imaam Ibn Rajab, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: "Any words from the Salaf considering something as a good Bid’ah were meant in the linguistic and not the Islamic sense, such as the saying of ‘Umar, may Allaah be pleased with him, when he saw people praying Taraaweeh in congregation, that "This is a good Bid’ah.

Again, Something good is not just good at all times and at all places. In islam every place has what is good for that place or occasion. Most often than not we see people practicing something which do not fit the place or the occasion, this act is a bidia based on the second definition.

Case study;

I go to the grave yard and we recite Quran in unison as we bury the dead, though the prophet never instructed us to do it. Infact he commanded us to pray in our homes in order not to turn them into graves. We recite the Quran there because;
1.     Though the Prophet didn’t do it but reading the Quran isn’t a wrong thing, its an act of worship.

2.     Another reason for doing this is that many people might be discussing unnecessary things at the graveyard and so we engage them in the recitation of the Quran so that they don’t discuss wordly affairs.

What is wrong with this?

Lets use this analogy, a gentleman in my area cannot recite faatiha so I told him to replace the faatiha with ‘Laa-ilaaha illallah’.
I tell a gentleman to pray only one rakah for Asr because he feels lazy to pray all the four rakats.

Though the people are too stubborn to keep qiute at the grave yard that doesn’t warrant us to introduce something new into our religion to make them keep qiute. We need to advice them on the importance of keeping qiute and reflecting.

In addition, many acts of worship currently are bidia because of exagration. Because we have either prescribed reward for it and or quantity of it required.

Case study;

Sa’eed Ibn Al-Musayyib, may Allaah have mercy upon him, saw a man praying too many optional prayers before the Fajr prayer and therefore he forbade him from doing so. The man retorted: "O Abu Muhammad! Will Allaah punish me for praying?" Sa'eed replied: "No, but He will punish you for doing other than the Sunnah."

The actual fear for doing something other than the sunna is that with  time people wont really know the prescribed number and his would be taken as the standard.

Another example is that of the cracking of the fingers after salah. Today ,many people are beginning to think its actually a part of the salah and hence right after salah you hear many people cracking their fingers. This was someones normal act but gradually its been introduced into the activities of our salah.

Mzy Allah forgive us for our shortcomings and increase us in knowledge and understanding.
