UNIQUENESS OF SURATUL FALAQ AND NASS

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The Best of Praises and Thanks belong to Allah, the Lord of the Entire Universe. He is the One
who Created Mankind and Jinkind in order for them to worship Him. It isn’t that He needed
sustenance from them, neither did He need from them feeding. He, Allah, is the Possessor of
Strength, the Mighty One. Praises that are superiority to all other praises like His Superiority
over His creatures shall forever be showered upon Him as much He wills.
Among His signs and from His Enormous mercy is that Allah, “taught the Qur’an. He created
man: He taught him speech.” Alhamdu-liLlah, Allah revealed the Qur’an to His beloved Prophet
SAW in which we are given the explanation to everything. In the Qur’an is guidance for the
Pious as Allah stated in the second verse of AL-Baqarah that, “this is the book in which there is
no doubt, a guidance to the pious. Those who believe in the unseen and perform Salah and
spend from that which we sustain them...” Among the matters of the unseen is that Allah
created the jinns and veiled them from our eyes. It has been proven from numerous texts in the
Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet SAW, the existence of this race and we have been given some
of their characteristics. One of the nature of these creatures which very known to almost all
Muslims is their ability to cause harm to humans spiritually. This harm is sometimes caused by
them of their own will or they work together some human beings in order to cause harm to
other human beings. This is a characteristic which Allah SWA has given to them. Allah SWA in
His infinite Mercy, verily gave us numerous ways by which we can protect ourselves from these
creatures and also any other forms of harm that might be caused either by them or our fellow
human beings. Because among the other forms spiritual harm that can befall us is that which is
caused by humans themselves to their fellow humans beings is what we refer to as evil eye. It is
referred to a witchcraft or wizardry in certain situations when the caster is very aware of that
power and is able to control it as stated in the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet SAW. Allah
says in the al-Qalam that, “and indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with
their eyes when they hear the message, and they say, “Indeed, He is mad.”
Alhamdu-liLlah, once again, Allah has revealed the Quran to us through His Messenger SAW,
within which we can find cure as He stated in Suratul Isra. Within the Quran is that which is a
cure to the believers but as for the disbelievers, it only increases them is their wrong doings.
May Allah SWA protect us from disbelief.
From the means with which we can protect ourselves from all kinds of harm both physical and
spiritual and with we can cure ourselves from harms that have already afflicted us is the two
surahs from the Qur’an which have been named al-Mu’awidhatayn, the two Protectors. These
surahs we commonly know them as birabbil falaq and birabbin-naas. In shall Allah, today we
shall look at the uniqueness of these two chapters as the topic of our discussion has put it.
First of all, I would assume that everyone here knows those two surahs so there will be no need
for us to put them here. But whoever does not know can look at the last two chapters of the
Qur’an. These are the chapters whose uniqueness we shall be looking at today, in shaa Allah.

The first form of uniqueness we shall look at concerning these two chapters is very general. And
that is the fact that these two, are also verses from the Quran. They are among the signs of and
verses of Allah with which Allah SWA makes known to us the believers, His greatness and
Power. And with these verses He makes known to the disbelievers and all of us His existence
and Sovereignty. Like it is stated in an-Naas, we are told that Allah is the Lord of Mankind, He is
the Master of Mankind and He is also the God of Mankind. One of the miracles of these
chapters, like all other chapters of the Quran has been stated in the last verse of suratul Kahf in
which Allah emphatically states that, “if the seas were ink to the words of my Lord, they would
be exhausted before the words of my Lord are exhausted even if the like of them (the seas)
were brought again...” Allahu Akbar. Let us look at the number of verses in these two chapters.
Allahu Akbar, yet Allah says that if we were to write what they entail, oceans of ink will not
suffice that task.
These two chapters, are the only chapters of the Qur’an which have been given the name, the
protectors or that which is used to protect. Though it is known that there are other verses in
the Qur’an that can be used for that purpose, none other has been given that name except
these two chapters. This is because they were revealed mainly because of that purpose.
The second unique fact about these two chapters is the reason why they were revealed to the
Prophet SAW. But before that, it has been narrated that the Prophet SAW used to seek Allah’s
protection using these surahs and some have said that this surah is used to safeguard oneself
from hypocrisy. Now, it was narrated from the Mother of the Believers, ‘A’isha, the daughter of
Abu-Bakr, may Allah be pleased with them both, that a magic spell was cast upon the Prophet
SAW by a jew who bore the name, Lubayd bin al-A’asam, and this spell affected the Prophet
SAW to the extent that the Prophet used to feel that he did certain things which, in reality, he
did not do. This was the situation of the Prophet SAW for some time and then he said to his
wife, ‘O ‘A’isha Allah has instructed me regarding a matter about which I had asked him. Two
angels came to me and one of them sat by my head whiles the other sat by my foot. The one by
my head said, ‘what is wrong with this man?’ the other said, ‘a spell has been cast on him.’ He
then asked, ‘and who cast it on him?’ the other replied, ‘Lubaid bin al-A’asam.’ He again asked,
‘with what?’ the other angel replied, ‘the skin of the pollen of a male date tree with a comb and
the hair stuck to it, kept under a stone in the well of Dhi-arwan...’ He then went to the well and
removed it. And ibn Abbas said, ‘and he SAW sent Aliyy and Zubayr and Ammaar bin Yaasir and
they removed it and they saw that it was tied with eleven knots. And Allah revealed these two
surahs and they were eleven verses in total. And whenever a verse was recited a knot will be
untied until the last knot was untied...” Allahu Akbar. We can see from these narrations the
reason why these surahs were revealed and the miracle they came with. This is the Knowledge
of Allah SWA, this is the Power of Allah SWA.
It should be noted, the importance of the revelation of these verses in the religion of Allah. This
is the Prophet of Allah SAW. If Allah willed He would have just cured the Prophet SAW right
away without any of these events happening. But He SWA revealed these verses to the Prophet

to teach us the Ummah of Islam numerous lessons some of which He has made known to us.
The Prophet SAW was not going to be with us forever but the Qur’an and his teachings will
remain even after his death SAW. Allah gave us these two verse as a source of relief and healing
and as a cure to all our ailments, both physically and spiritually. We live in a generation in which
innovations are very wide spread and Muslims prefer to use complicated ways to solve their
problems, ways which are not even legislated in our religion. Meanwhile Allah has given us very
simple means which come with great effect if we put our trust in Allah SWA.
It was narrated by ‘Uqbah bin ‘Aamir that once he was travelling with the Prophet SAW when
they were engulfed by a very fierce and intense wind, then Prophet SAW then started seeking
refuge with suratul falaq and suratun Naas and he was saying, ‘O Uqbah seek protection with
these two for protection has never been sought with the likes of these two.’” This hadith tells
us a lot about these two surahs. One of them being that these two surah are of the greatest
weapons with which a believer can seek protection. The other being that a believer can use
these two surahs to seek Allah’s protection in whatever situation he finds himself. In another
hadith related by Imam Muslim, on the authority of ‘Aisha, whenever the Prophet SAW used to
be in pains and uneasiness, he would recite these two surahs and the blow it into palms and
wipe his body with it and, “whenever it became too severe I will recite and then wipe him with
it using his hands...”
My dear brothers and sisters, how many times do we complain about feeling dizzy, headaches

and all sorts of uneasiness and difficulties? How many of us have ever thought of using biribbin-
naas and birabbil falaq to solve our uneasiness. Whenever you are having a headache, you are

feeling dizzy or any sort of difficulties our first aid should be these two surahs. WaLlahi if
Muslims were to be using these two surahs all the time, we wouldn’t have the need of first aid
kits.
There is a lot that can be said about these two glorious chapters from the glorious Quran but
this is the little we have to say about it for now. May Allah SWA forgive us for our errors and
mistakes and may He not deny us of His Mercy and Blessings. May He have Mercy upon, Forgive
and Guide our parents. The married ones may Allah put Baraka and peace in their marriages.
The unmarried ones may Allah protect from zina and make it easy for to get married to
righteous spouses. May Allah protect us from shirk and unite us in Jannah with His Prophet
SAW and all the righteous one who have preceded us and those who shall go after us.
As-Salamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatu-Llah Wa Barakatuhu

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MUSLIMS AND NON-MUSLIMS

In the Name of Allah. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The best of Praises and Thanks belong to Allah SWA, who has guided us to this religion. We could not
have been led to the straight path if Allah had not guided us. I testify that there is no deity deserving to
be worshipped but Allah, the Lord of the entire Universe. I again testify that Muhammad SAW is the
servant and Messenger of Allah SWA. He whom Allah has guided, none can lead astray and he whom
Allah has led astray, none can guide. May Allah Forgive us, Have mercy on us and Guide us. Aameen.

In shaa Allah, in this session, we shall talk briefly about the relationship between a believer and a non-
believer. The first point that shall be made is that a Muslim can never be friends with a non-Muslim. He

who believes in Allah SWA and the last will never be friends with a non-believer. They, the non-
believers, on the other will never be friends with us Muslims and that is the fact. You might have some

kind of relationship and interaction with them to make you feel that they are your friends. They might
tell you things or even go straight to the point and vividly let you know that they are your friends but in
reality they are not and will never be your friends until you convert to their religion or they revert to
Islam. This is in accordance to the statement of the Truthful, Allah SWA, “Neither the Jews nor the
Christians will be pleased with you until you follow their faith.” Baqara 120 They can be friends with you
when they are not pleased with you.
In another verse, Allah SWA tell us that, “O you who believer, Take not the Jews and Christians for
friends. They are friends to each other. He, among you, who takes them for friends is (one) of them.
Assuredly Allah guides no the wrongdoing.” Maida 51
Allah tells us that the disbelievers are only friends of each other. He makes it clear to us. No matter how
much you try to please they will never be pleased with you. There are a group of Muslim brothers and
sisters who, off late, have been claiming that the Christian brothers are even better than the Muslims in
our society. They go to the extent of claiming that these disbelievers are a pleased with them and make
their lives enjoyable and fun and all sorts of adverbs. But the sad reality is that Allah has spoken and the
word of Allah is the absolute truth. Whoever amongst us thinks or feels that they, the disbelievers, are
pleased with him or her, should check his eemaaan. He should check his faith, perhaps he is gradually
turning towards their path. You will find that such people will feel shy to say, Alhamdu-liLlah when they
sneeze in public. Some don’t say it at all and some even go to the extent of abandoning it and saying
“excuse me,” instead. May Allah guide us.
It is very sad the plight of those prefer the friendship of disbelievers rather than the believers thinking
that they are having what will make them happy. Allah is saying to such people, “O you who believe,
choose not the disbelievers for friends rather than the believers. Would you wish to offer Allah an open
proof against yourselves” an-Nisa 144. Very sad is their plight, O servants of Allah. They feel they are
having what will be of benefit for them. They that they know what they are about in this world but little
do they know that they are only proving for Allah proofs against themselves. May Allah guide us.
A lot of us will be wondering why the disbelievers are not and cannot be our friends. Though some of
the above verses have made it clear to us, let us a take a look the statement of Allah in which He say, “O
believers! Do not make friends with those who are enemies of Mine and yours, showing them kindness
and when they have denied the truth that has been revealed to you and driven the Messenger and
yourselves out of your city because you believe in Allah, your Lord....” Al-Mumtahina 1. First of all this is

a command from Allah SWA. Again, these disbelievers are that enemies of Allah SWA, our Lord, our
Creator, our Sustainer and Maintainer. This automatically make them our enemies.
Before we bring our talk to an end, how are we supposed to behave with the disbelievers then. If we are
not to befriend them and show love to them, does that mean we should around and kill them, or fight
them wherever we find them or destroy their properties?
There are many answers which point to the same meaning. In shaa Allah we shall take just one of them
from the verses of the Quran in which Allah said, “Allah does not forbid you to be kind and just to those
who have neither made war on you nor driven you from your homes. Indeed, Allah Loves the just. Verily,
He forbids you to make friends with those who have fought against you on account of your religion and
driven you from your homes, or abetted other to do so. Those who make friends with are wrongdoers.”
Al-Mumtahina 8-9.
Notwithstanding the fact that we cannot be friends with non-believers, we are obligated to treat them
with kindness and respect and justice if they do not wage war against us or drive us from our homes. We
can have transactions with them. Things which will bring us benefit in our worldly lives without affection
our eemaan and our hereafter. We can school with them, we can work with them, we share our food
with them and we can help them when they are facing any worldly difficulties. When it comes to the
deen, then they are not our friends and we do not have anything to do with them except to call them
unto the path of Allah SWA. The single path which leads to the Mercy of Allah SWA.
This talk is just a brief one which did not go into details. This is just to draw our attention towards the
issue. Whoever has a question can direct to us and we will look for the answers for them in shaa Allah.
Whatever mistake we made is from ourselves due to our imperfections and the influence of Shaytan,
May Allah Forgive us for that. Whatever good we said is from Allah and His Messenger, May Allah
reward us for that and grant us Jannah.
“Here is a Message for Mankind: Let them take warning therefrom, and let them know that He is (no
other than He) One Allah: let them men of understanding take heed.”
Upon us is the propagation of the message and upon Allah is the recounting.
May the Salutations, Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon His Messenger, his household, companions
and the entire Ummah till the day when there shall be no shade except the shade of Allah SWA.

Teachings from the Qur’an and Sunnah in summary

As-salamu alaykum wa RahmatuLlah wa Barakatuhu.
I hope we are all fine. In shaa Allah we will start our presentation soon
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious the Most Merciful
The best of Praises belong to Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful. The Most Gracious the Most Merciful. Master of the day of Judgement. You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help. Guide us upon the straight path, the path of those whom you have favoured and not that of those who have incurred Your Wrath nor of those who have gone astray. Aameen.
We ask Allah to shower upon His Noble Prophet SAW, His saluations, peace and Blessing. We ask Him to bestow the Same upon the household of the Prophet SAW, his companions and all those who help on the path of Allah till the day when there shall be no shade except the shade of Allah SWA.
Indeed we should count ourselves favoured by Allah if we find ourselves in a program like this to learn about the religion of Allah and to empower ourselves with that which will help to perfect our worldly affairs and also our religious affairs.
Servants of Allah, the topic of discussion today is Teachings from the Quran and Sunnah. We ask Allah to make ease our presentation and also grant us the maximum understanding in order to assimilate whatever will be said and to be also to propagate it. May He forgive us our sins and also the mistakes we might commit in the due course of our presentation. Aameen.
Verily, the ideal way of life of a muslim is governed by the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet SAW. Everything that we need in this world and in the hereafter has been taught to us by Allah and His Messenger SAW in the Quran and through the Sunnah of the Prophet SAW. So when I was given this topic, I was at a loss on how to tackle it. Because the entire Quran is filled teachings. From Fatiha to Naas. And if we are to talk of teachings from the Quran then we are actually referring to taking the surahs one after the other and then learn what each surah teaches and virtually treating the tafseers of the surahs, which we are not yet qualified to do.
Humans, as Allah SWA created us, are all different. We all come from different places and we are all faced by different situations. And that is the reason why I pray that, irrespective of what we learn from the Quran through our discussion today, it will have an impact in the lives of all those who are taking part on this presentation.
Allah the Most High started surah al Baqara with the following, Alif, Lam, Mim. This is the book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah.
Allah the Sublime, says about the Quran which He sent down to our Noble Prophet Muhammad the son of AbduLlah, SAW, that indeed the Quran, the Book of Allah, the Apogee of all revelations, the summary and yet more comprehensive version of previous revelations, is a book that contains no doubt.
That this Quran is a book which presents no doubt to those who read it. It presents no doubt to anyone who comes across it and ponders about. So here comes a question? What if a person reads a portion of the Quran and does not understand it, isnt this a doubt that has been casted upon this person?
The answer to this question is that, misunderstanding is different from doubt. A person can understand something and still doubt it. With the Quran, the fact that a person reads a part and does not understand it does not mean there is a mistake in the Quran. If this person is willing to know the truth he would ask and will get an answer. And that is one of the reasons why Allah places in every generation someone who understands the religion of Allah very well and will teach it those of us who will not understand according the words of our noble Prophet SAW. So definitely, the Quran is book which was revealed to an unlettered man, who is the best man to be ever created and it is filled with absolute truth and accuracy in all senses. But Allah does not end there.
Allah continues. What does Allah continue with? Allah continues with the reason why the Quran was revealed. He continues with the reason why indeed the Quran is book with no doubts, with no errors. Allah says, a guidance for those conscious of Allah
In some translations which is often used the word pious is used in substitution for the statement conscious of Allah.
And who are the pious people servants of Allah.
In the most basic of explanations, the pious are those who obey the commandments of Allah and His Messenger and stay away from the Prohibitions of Allah and His Messenger. But there certain characteristics which are used to describe the pious in the Quran and also in the Sunnah of our Noble Prophet SAW. If one finds himself possessing some or all of these characters then he should thank Allah and know that he is threading in the right path withoiut any shred of arrogance or pride.

Allah says, [those] who believe in the unseen, establish salah and spend out of what We have provided for them.
When we say that a person is pious what do we mean by that. Such a person must believe in the unseen. The unseen are matters that are known to only Allah. You believe that it is only Allah who has knowledge of the unseen. You believe that there is life after death. And that the torment of the grave is true. These are some of the matters of the unseen. After that you establish salah.
Salah is the most important act of worship in the religion of Allah. Among the pillars of Islam, salah comes next to testifying that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad SAW is His servant and Messenger. On the day of Qiyamah if a servants salah is perfect or deemed appropriate by Allah SWA then all his deeds will be deemed appropriate.
Salah is one the places and situations that Allah does not reject the prayer of a servant. But that is only when we give the salah its due rights. In our previous presentation entitled how to attain the Mercy of Allah that the Prophet SAW is reported to have said that Allah the Sublime said, I have divided Salah between me and My servant into two.
When My Servant says, The Best of Praise Belongs to Allah the Lord of the Universe, Allah says, My servant has praised me. When My servant says, the Most Gracious the Most Merciful, Allah SWA says, My servant has Exalted me. When My Servant says, Master of the Day of Judgement, Allah SWA says, My servant has Glorified me. And when My servant says, You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help, Allah SWA says, this is between me and My Servant and I have granted for My Servant whatever he will ask.
But servants of Allah, this conversation between Allah and His servant can only occur when you give your salah its rights. And this favour can only be gotten by those who pious.
Allah then says, and they spend out of what We have provided for them..
We are still talking about those who are conscious of Allah SWA, those who are pious. May Allah make us among them. Allah says they are those who spend out of what He has provided for them.
Servants of Allah we live in an era in which people only give Allah SWA when they have excess money of wealth to spend. People only give in the path of Allah only when they consider themselves to be rich. When people give out to Allah only when they are in difficulties and need something from Allah.
Servants of Allah, Allah is telling us that those who are indeed and actually conscious of Allah and are the true pious servants are those who give, those who spend out of what Allah has provided for them, whether what Allah has provided for them is more or very small, whether they are in need or not, whether they are rich or very poor that they dont know where their next meal will come from. These are the people Allah SWA is talking about. These are the true pious servants. May Allah make us amongs them.
To cap off our lesson from the Quran which is basically talking about the pious servants of Allah I will like to make mention of the verse of Allah in which Allah SWA says about His conscious servants,
And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves[by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins- and who can forgive sins except Allah?...
Allahu Akbar.
Allah is talking about His pious servants again. But these servants committed immoralities. These servants wronged themselves. These servants went against the commandments of Allah but how come Allah describes them among those whom He SWA considers to be pious.
This is the reason. These servants of Allah remembered Allah SWA whiles they were engrossed in disobeying Him. They remembered Allah whiles committing immoralities. They remembered Allah whiles they were committing acts that would lead them to Jahannam and what did they do when they remembered Allah. These servants sought for forgiveness. And who forgives sins lest Allah.
May Allah make us among His pious servants. And May He grant us Jannah. Servants of Allah due to unavailability of time to make adequate preparations I will end here and we pray to Allah to make us beneficiaries of whatever we have learnt. As-salamu alaykum wa RahmatuLlah wa Barakatuhu.

ACHIEVING THE MERCY OF ALLAH

As-salamu alaykum wa RahmatuLlah.

In the name of Allah, the most Gracious the most Merciful

The best of Praises and thanks belong to Allah the Most High. Praises that superior to all other praises like the superiority of Allah over His creatures. We testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone without partners.

We ask Allah to send His Peace, salutations and Blessings upon the Noble Prophet SAW, his household, his companions and the entire Muslim ummah till the day when there shall be no shade except the shade of Allah SWA. May Allah put us under His shade on the day of Qiyamah. Aamen.

Servants of Allah SWA, indeed we have been privileged to be given the mantle to serve as a means of reminder to the ummah of the Prophet SAW. We deem it a great privilege and an honour that has been conferred to us by Allah SWA. It is my prayer that Allah SWA will make us beneficiaries of this National Tour that we are embarking on. May Allah reward the organizers of this initiative and all those who will embark on it. Servants of Allah before I start on the main topic I would like to send each and everyone on a cajoling stint as to why occasions and initiatives likes this will be rewarding to us in this world and in the hereafter.

The Messenger of ALLAH SAW is reported to have said, as narrated by Abu Hurairah RA, that a group of people will not come together in a house from the houses of Allah to recite the Book of Allah and teach each other about except that Allah SWA will descend upon them tranquility and Mercy and they shall be engulfed by His Angels and that Allah will mention them in the midst of the inhabitants of Jannah. So I would like to encourage anyone who is taking part in this initiative, whether as a presenter or as audience that your time spent on this will never go unnoticed by Allah the Most Grateful.

The second is narrated from Muawiyah when the Prophet SAW was teaching his companions RA in a circle of knowledge when three men entered upon them. One of them joined the circle whiles the second sat a bit further away from them. The third did not join them nor sit close to them, he went away. So the Messenger of Allah SAW said to them, shall I inform you of a group of people? The first of them run to Allah so Allah run to him. The second one was shy of Allah so Allah was also shy of him. As for the third he turned away from Allah and Allah turned away from him.

Servants of Allah, as we are having this session to remind ourselves of Allah SWA and also to get ourselves closer to the mercy of Allah we are definitely going to fall within one of these three categories of people. Please let us do our best and be in the category of the one who opened their arms to Allah and Allah also embraced them with His Mercy.

Alhamdu-liLlah, Allah SWA divided His Mercy into a hundred parts servants of Allah. Out of this hundred, servant of Allah, one part of was shared among all creatures and the remaining ninety-nine percent remained with Allah SWA. Ninety-nine percent. Servants of Allah, in one hadith from the Prophet SAW, we are made to aware of the narration in which a mother found her child after moments of desperation.

The Prophet SAW asked his companions if this woman will deliberately put her child into fire and they replied in the negative. The Prophet SAW then made them aware that Allahs Mercy exceeds the mercy of this woman. Servants of Allah not only the mercy of a mother towards her child but the mercy of the creatures of Allah in entirety from the beginning of creation to its end. Allah the most High says in the Glorious Quran, Inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Mercy and it is my punishment which is the most painful of punishment. Hijr 49 50.

Allah tells informs us of His punishment too.  After telling us about His Mercy, He tells us about His punishment. Indeed, Allah is the Most severe in Punishment. But Servants of Allah in order to avoid the punishment of Allah, we need to attain His Mercy and that is our focus for our presentation today. How to attain the Mercy of Allah?

And one of the ways of attaining the Mercy if Allah is through engagements like the one we are having now. May Allah shower upon us His Mercy.

On the day of Qiyamah there are going to be a lot of tribulations and difficulties. On this day a man will run away from his spouse, his friend, his companions and children. Allah makes it known to us that the best of friends on that will become enemies except the pious. When you observe piety in your dealings Allah SWA will have mercy on you and on the day when friends are enemies, you will still remain friends with your fellows who also had piety whiles in this world.

On the day of Qiyamah there shall be no shade for anyone except the Shade of Allah and the only way to attain this shade on the day of Qiyamah has been stated by the Messenger of Allah SAW. If we are able to follow these, Allah SWA will have mercy on us and then add us to those whom He shall shade on the day when there is no shade except the shade of Allah.

One of them is to be just in every situation you find yourself as the leader. Being the leader here doesnt necessarily mean you should be in any position of authority. No thats not what we are talking about, but situation in which you are in charge. You are asked for your school fees by your parents and you give them an amount that is higher than the actual amount or you fail to give you child any kind of Islamic Education. Not being just here could also refer to oppressing those who you are put in charge of. Wallahi even your own self can be denied justice by yourself. And the worst form of injustice that you can met out to yourself is to enter the hell fire on the day of judgement.I dont think I will wrong if I say that most of the members of this group are part of the youthful category. I will therefore use this opportunity to pose this question to all and sundry who have made it a point to drink from the cup of mercy Allah has made available to us by virtue of this lecture. The question is that what have you done during your youthful age to ensure that you will attain the mercy of Allah SWA.

Most of the youth today are very radical. They feel they are on top of the world. They have no regard or respect for anyone. When they get a little secular education they think they are better than their elders. When they gain a little money they think they can control even their parents. And even with those who gain little knowledge concerning the religion, they try be proud and behave arrogantly towards the senior folks of the society. And when you look at all these you will realize that they all stem from the desires of the youth to feel in control when they are not even qualified to be in control. And when we allow our desires to cloud our judgment we will be deprived of the understanding of the religion of Allah. And the religion of Allah is a very Great Mercy which Allah SWA has bestowed upon us. For anyone who upholds his religion, Allah will grant him Jannah through His mercy.

One of the problems that is facing the youth of today is disobedience and disrespect to our parents. We fail to realize the most of the evil that is happening to us is as a result this disrespect we show to our parents. We talk to our parents anyhow, we therefore go to school and we are treated anyhow by our lectures and we dont understand. When evil is about to occur it always happens to us. This is because we are not living our youthful age in service to Allah.

But one of the people whom shall be shaded by Allah by virtue of His mercy is a young person who spends his youth in the service of Allah SWA. How many of us recite the Quran on a daily basis? How many of perform optional salawats regularly? How many of us make it a point to go out and call people to the religion of Allah? How many of us wake up during the night to worship Allah?

Sometimes we think we would change when we grow up and become old. Because at that point we will now realize we are closer to death. Know that, O servant of Allah, 99% of all those old men and women we see to be very pious and religious and to be standing at night calling out to their Lord in fear and hope started these acts when they were in their youthful age. As a result, they will die in these acts at their old age as a mercy from Allah.

Servants of Allah if we want to gain the mercy of Allah, we should love each other for the sake of Allah. How do we love each for the sake of Allah? Some of the ways is that when we met with such a person we meet them for the sake of Allah, we treat them with compassion for the sake of Allah. When we talk about them it is for the sake of Allah. We pray for them and whatever we do for them or with them is for the sake of Allah.

Nowadays we love each other for sake of evil things and things that draw us away from Allah. We fail to realize that loving each other for the sake of Allah will help us to attain the mercy of Allah. Allah is also going to love. And when Allah loves a servant, as narrated from the Prophet SAW, all the inhabitants of Jannah are also going to love such a person and the love of this person shall place in the hearts of the creatures of the world. So you are going to realize that you will treated very well at a place where others are treated harshly and unfairly, this is the Love of Allah. This is the mercy of Allah.

Servants of Allah, we need to fear Allah SWA. For this is the first point of call if we actually want to attain the mercy of ALLah SWA. Do we know why Muslim Society is being oppressed nowadays? Do we know why we are suffering as muslims? Our sisters are not being allowed to wear the hijab, niqab. Brothers are being prevented from leaving their beards at workplaces and other places. Do we know why all these are happening to us. Do we know why our children and siblings in second cycle schools are being maltreated and being prevented from praying or getting good places to pray? Servants of Allah it is because we are denying ourselves of the Mercy of Allah.

And how are we doing that. We are doing that by not fearing Allah. Wallahi we dont fear Allah. Because Allah says that anyone who fears Him, He is going to make a path for him in all situations but why arent we getting ways us of our difficult situations/ the answer is simple. We do not fear Allah. If we want Allah to shower His mercy upon us servants of Allah, please let us fear Allah.

The last thing I am going to mention that will help us to attain the Mercy of Allah is through constant repentance and seeking of forgiveness. Allah SWA loves those who repent and those who seek His forgiveness. If we seek the forgiveness of Allah constantly, He is going to rain upon us His mercy. Allah is going to answer all of our prayers. All our difficulties Allah is going to remove us from them. Allah is going enrich us from His bounties and He is going to bless us with pious children. Children who will be raising our ranks in the Sight of Allah even after our deaths and even their own deaths.

May Allah have mercy on us. May He bestow upon us His Mercy. May Allah forgive us our sins. Yaa Allah we love You. We Love You Yaa Allah. Please endow us with qualities of those who Love you. Yaa Allah let us love You and Your Messenger more than we love everyone and everything else.

O Allah please shower upon us Your Mercy. What a waste our births will be if we dont attain Your Mercy Yaa Allah. Please forgive us and grant us Your Mercy. As-salamu alaykum

In the name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad [Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Aalihee Wa Sallam] is His slave and Messenger.

O you who believe! Fear Allaah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allaah.)

O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person, and from him He created his wife, and from them both He created many men and women, and fear Allaah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship) Surely, Allaah is Ever an All-Watcher over you).

O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allaah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth). He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Aalihee Wa Sallam) he has indeed achieved a great achievement (i.e. he will be saved from the Hell-fire and made to enter Paradise).

To proceed:

Verily, the best of speech is the book of Allaah and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Aalihee Wa Sallam). The worst of affairs are newly-invented matters, and every newly-invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.

As-salaamu 'alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh.

In shaa Allaah, our topic for today is: *How to be a good Muslim

One becomes a good Muslim by identifying the traits of a good Muslim and applying it in his or her life. How then can one identify who a good Muslim is?

Who is a Muslim and Who is a good Muslim is a good Muslim is two completely different things all together and we must know the difference Insha Allah.

BRIEF EXPLANATION
As-salamu alaykum
In shaa Allah we will continue with hadith no 6 today
On the authority of an-Numan ibn Basheer (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, That which is lawful is clear and that which is unlawful is clear, and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which many people do not know. Thus he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honour, but he who falls into doubtful matters [eventually] falls into that which is unlawful, like the shepherd who pastures around a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. Truly every king has a sanctuary, and truly Allahs sanctuary is His prohibitions. Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh, which, if it be whole, all the body is whole, and which, if it is diseased, all of [the body] is diseased. Truly, it is the heart. In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The best of Praises and Thanks belong to Allah, the most worthy of the best of Praises and thanks. Praises that are superior to all other praises, like the superiority of Allah over His creatures. I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Prophet Muhammad SAW is His servant and Messenger. May the salutations and peace of Allah SWA be showered upon His noble Messenger SAW.
Indeed halal is clear and haram is also clear. Between halal and haram are deeds and affairs that are ambiguous or arent clear.
What is right(or permissible) is clear and everyone knows it or is aware of it. For example righteousness, giving of alms, wearing clothes tht have been prescribed in the religion.
Haram or what is prohibited is also clearand everyone knows it. And examples of prohibited things or wrong things are stealing, murder, fornication and the likes of it.
And the ambiguous stuffs or affairs are that which are in between. They are not known whether they are halal or they are haram. These ambiguous or doubtful matters are not known to a lot of people. This statement has been explained by our great Faqeeh Uthaymeen RA, that they are not known to a lot of people and they are at the same time known to a lot of people. So many people know these doubtful matters and many people do not know them.
Therefore it isnt that a lot or majority of men do not know it and that the remaining few know it.
 No.
And whosoever stays away from doubtful matters; meaning he tries his best not to associate himself with anything that has got to do with doubtful matters. He makes sure he does not engage himself in such things. He does not ask about them, he does not talk about them, he does not practice them.
Then he has cleared himself in regard to his religion and his honour, meaning he has claimed for himself innonence with regards to his religion, which is between him and his Lord SWA.
He has also cleared himself with regards to his honour, which is between him and other people. This is because, when it comes to doubtful matters, if a man mounts upon them it may lead to people losing the hionour they associated with him as a result of them always making statements concerning him due to his association with doubtful matters.
And anyone who falls into doubtful matters or ambiguous matters, by doing them and associating himself with them, he falls into haram. This statement can be categorized into two according our Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih:
The first of them being that the practice of doubtful matters is haram in itself.
The second being that it could lead to haram from the explanation of the Prophet SAW in his following statement that,  like the shepherd( herder of sheep, camel or cattle) who is herding his flock by around a sanctuary, a sanctuary which they could trespass or breach. Not because they want to or they wish to but as a result of their closeness to it and it appeal to them.
It is the same way that if a person plays around doubltful affairs, he will fall into them and it might not be initial intention to egange himself in them.
Every master, or every king or emperor has his limits, or sanctuary. And the limits of Allah are that which He has made prohibited. And indeed, in the body there is a morsel of flesh. Something small. If this flesh is good or is pure, the whole body is pure and if it is corrupted, the whole body is corrupted. This morsel of flesh is the heart.
Alhamdu-liLlah
We will end here
May Allah grant us the max benefit of this lesson

BRIEF EXPLANATION

On the authority of Abdullah ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he is the truthful, the believed, narrated to us, Verily the creation of each one of you is brought together in his mothers womb for forty days in the form of a nutfah (a drop), then he becomes an alaqah (clot of blood) for a like period, then a mudghah (morsel of flesh) for a like period, then there is sent to him the angel who blows his soul into him and who is commanded with four matters: to write down his rizq (sustenance), his life span, his actions, and whether he will be happy or unhappy (i.e., whether or not he will enter Paradise). By the One, other than Whom there is no deity, verily one of you performs the actions of the people of Paradise until there is but an arms length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him, and so he acts with the actions of the people of the Hellfire and thus enters it; and verily one of you performs the actions of the people of the Hellfire, until there is but an arms length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him and so he acts with the actions of the people of Paradise and thus he enters it. I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Prophet Muhammad SAW is His servant and Messenger. May the salutations and peace of Allah SWA be showered upon His noble Messenger SAW.
In our previous session we undertook the first hadith of Imam an-Nawawis forty hadith book. We pray to Allah to help us implement whatever we studied in that lesson. Our Shaykh has taken us through the second and third ahadith and in shaa Allah today we shall continue with the fourth hadith. In shaa Allah for todays hadith I will make the class as short as possible due to the limited amount of time that I have had for the past days to prepare for it and also the inadequate time I have now to expatiate and elaborate into detail a little about our hadith. May Allah the Almighty make it easy for us.This hadith was narrated by one of the most renowned companions of the Prophet SAW. And he bears the name of Abd-ul-Llah ibn Masood. He is one the greatest scholars of the deen and also one of the companions of the Prophet who could give very acute explanations of the Quran.
He was also a servant to the Prophet SAW. The Prophet SAW said concerning this companion that if one wanted to recite the Quran as eloquent as it was revealed, then he should recite it like the recitation of ibn Masood. May Allah the most High be pleased with this companion. Aameen.
He RA starts this hadith by saying that, the Messenger of Allah SAW told us or informed us. And he SAW is the Truthful, the Believed.
Verily, the creation of each one of you is brought together in his mothers womb for forty days in the form of a drop(semen), then he becomes a clot of blood for a like period, then he becomes a morsel of flesh for a like period.
When we take a look at the statement of the narrator in which he said that Prophet SAW is the Truthful, and the Believed. We get the understanding that the Prophet SAW was someone who was characterized with honest. And he spoke nothing but the truth in all cases. And the statement, the Believed makes us know that he SAW, was someone who was believed by all that heard him speak and they testified to that fact.
Not only did he speak the truth but he was also believed. For we have situations in which a person can be truthful and yet people will not believe. From the narrations of the history of the Prophet we can even find that the idolaters who did not accept the religion of Islam believed it was the truth despite their dimwittedness. So Abd-ul-Llah bin Masood before narrating this hadith makes it clear to all of us the he, the Prophet SAW, was the Truthful and the Believed.
This characteristics being mentioned here is very important because this hadith was not just any ordinary hadith. None of the hadith of the Messenger SAW are ordinary though.
This hadith was going to inform man of things which he has no idea nor will ever have an idea of except he is told by Allah. This hadith was going to inform us of matters of the unseen which are only known to Allah SWA. So it is very important that our Narrator, may Allah be pleased with him, mentioned this very important and noble characteristic of our Noble Prophet SAW.
Our scholars explain to us that this drop is actually a mixture of the mans fluid and the womans. meaning in our scientific terms, this fluid refers to the zygote. And this is the state of the man for the first forty days of his creation in the womb of his mother.
And then it becomes a clot of blood for the next forty days. After this state it becomes a morsel of flesh, which we usually call the embryo or fetus for another forty days.
When you combine all the days, it becomes 120 days. That is four months for us.
An angel is then sent it after four months. And this Angel has been sent to it by Allah the Almighty. And the angel is only going to execute the commands of Allah exactly as Allah has commanded. When this Angels comes, he blows into this being, its life or its soul. So this being now becomes a living entity. How the life is blown into the being is known only to Allah the All Knowing.
The Angel is then commanded or instructed with four issues. These issues are the stipulation of the sustenance of the creature(man), his actions(deeds), his lifespan, and whether he will be among the fortunate ones or the depressed ones.
With regard to the sustenance of man which is stipulated by the Angel under the command of Allah at this time, it is two types. Sustenance of the body and sustenance of the religion.
For the sustenance of the body, this refers to all that he will eat of food in his entire life. Drink of water, the cloth he will wear in his entire life, the houses or rooms or his accommodation for his entire life, his mode of transport for his entire life and stuffs that are related to them.
From this we realize that, your food, water, accommodation, money, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, footsteps, clothes and the likes of it are all part of your sustenance and all these things are of the things that Allah decides for even before your birth.
As for the sustenance of the religion, this refers to the knowledge that a person will gain with regards to the religion of Allah and also the faith this person will have in his entire life.
So we learn that even knowledge and Eeman are all sustenance from Allah and Allah stipulates them even before we are born. May Allah grant us abundant sustenance. Aameen. With regard to the lifespan that Is stipulated, this refers to the number of minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years this person is going to spend when he enter this world. This lifespan can be so short that the human being will only spend it in the womb of his mother and then he will die. And that is miscarriage. And we need to take note. This lifespan is decided by Allah and He gives to His slaves and He deems fit. The length of a persons lifespan is not dependent of how beautiful this person is, or how strong and healthy this person is. If the time of a person is due and the Angel of death comes, it does not matter how strong or healthy this person is, he will succumb to death very easily without any struggle at all. This lifespan of us will never be hastened nor will it be delayed. It has an appointed time and will only be taken or ended when that time is due.
The deeds of a person are also stipulated at this time. These are the deeds of his tongue referring to his statement, the deeds of his action (physical actions), and also the deeds of his heart.
It will also be decided for such a person whether he will be among the fortunate one or among the unfortunate or depressed ones. The fortunate ones is referring to those who will attain Jannah on the last day by the mercy of Allah due to their righteous deeds. The unfortunate ones are those who will enter hellfire.
In shaa Allah we shall end here and continue with the ending part of this hadith next week in shaa Allah. May Allah forgive us our sins and make us among the fortunate ones.

ANAWAWI’S 40 hadith .HADITH NUMBER 1

It is narrated on the authority of Amirul Mu'minin, Abu Hafs 'Umar bin al-Khattab (ra) who said:
I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "Actions are (judged) by motives (niyyah), so each man will have what he intended. Thus, he whose migration (hijrah) was to Allah and His Messenger, his migration is to Allah and His Messenger; but he whose migration was for some worldly thing he might gain, or for a wife he might marry, his migration is to that for which he migrated." [Bukhari & Muslim]                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   ".                                                                                           Reference  : 40 Hadith Nawawi 1 English translation
As-salamu alaykum wa RahmatuLlahi wa Barakatuhu
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious the most Merciful
Alhamdu liLlah, we have been given another opportunity to study the teachings and traditions of our Noble Prophet Muhammad SAW.
In our previous class which was just introductory, we took our first hadith from the book of Imam an-Nawawi and I hope some of our members have at least made efforts to learn how to read this hadith if not memorize it. In shaa Allah today we shall give a little explanation and insight into this hadith. May Allah ease our affairs.
It is actually amazing that this hadith was not narrated by anyone of the companions of the Messenger of Allah SAW except Umar RA with its importance. But for this hadith there are a lot of testimonies and supports in the Quran and also the Sunnah of the Prophet SAW.
In the Quran, Allah SWA says, and you do not give out in charity except to seek the face(pleasure) of Allah al-Baqara 272. And this statement to seek the face of Allah is referring to niyyah. Allah again says, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah SAW, and the people with him are stringent upon the kuffar yet merciful among each other, you see them bowing and in prostration seek favour from Allah and also His Pleasure…” this is also referring to niyyah.
And the Messenger of Allah SAW said in a hadith to Saad bin Abi Waqqas RA, and know that you do not give out anything in charity seeking with the countenance with Allah except that you are rewarded for it even if it is a morsel of food you put in the mouth of your wife.
So we realise that this hadith which we are studying and was also narrated by Umar RA has been emphasized and confirmed by both the Quran and the Sunnah. And this hadith is attributed only to Umar RA. He is the only one from the companions of the Prophet SAW to have narrate this hadith. Meanwhile the Prophet gave this hadith in a Friday sermon.
Allahu Akbar. Notwithstanding that, this hadith is accepted by all and sundry and no one can doubt it authenticity.
Among some of the purposes of niyyah is to differentiate habits from worship. It also differentiates certain acts of worship from other acts of worship.
Taking a look at its purpose to differentiate acts of worship from habits let us take the following scenario:
A man takes food solely to satisfy his hunger, and another man takes his food in compliance or having in mind the command of Allah in which He said, and eat and drink (al-araf 31).
Now, the eating of the second man is worship and the eating of the first man is just a habit.
Lets look at a second scenario:A man bath with water in order to cool his body, and another man baths in order to attain ritual purity, in this case, the first mans bath is a habit and the second mans bath is worship. And in respect to this if a man were to be in a state of ritual impurity and then he jumped into a pool of water in order to cool his body and after that he performed Salah, his Salah is not valid because of the intention with which he jumped into the pool. He jumped in it to cool his body and not to attain ritual purity.
As a result of this some of the scholars have a statement which goes, the habits of the conscious one are worship and the worship of the negligent ones are habits.
So you will see that a man wears nice clothes to the masjid just to look nice but he has no reward for it because his intention was just to look nice. Something which could be born out of habit or an external influence. But another man dresses nicely to the masjid in accordance to the statement of Allah or command of Allah to us to approach each Salah with the best appearance. This man earns reward for his actions just because of his intention.Another purpose of niyyah is to differentiate one act of worship from another and we shall take examples of that also:
A man prays two rakats with the intention of it being an optional prayer and another man prays the same two rakats with the intention of it being a compulsory Salah. We realise that the two actions are the same both being made up of two rakats and that the only thing that differentiated them was the intention/niyyah.
We need to know that this niyyah we are talking about, or the intention we are talking about is in the heart. It is not made by uttering, you are about to worship the One Who Knows that which the eye cannot see and Knows that which is hidden in the hearts of men.Allah the Most High Knows that which is in the heart of His servant and it isnt as if when you are about to worship, you are worshipping someone who does not know what you want until you tell Him. You are standing before the One who knows what your soul whispers to itself. Therefore, the uttering of intention is bidah. An innovation. Whether it is uttered out loud or silently.
And the statement of the Messenger, and everyone shall get only that which he intended, refers to the actions or the intentions of the one who is making the actions or the deeds. And a lot of people have fallen prey in this.
You will find that two men are praying in the same Salah in the same masjid yet these two men are very far away from each other in terms of rewards the distance between the east and the west. This is because one of them is sincere in his prayer and the latter is not sincere.
And you will find two people who seeking knowledge of Tawheed, or Fiqh, or Tafseer, or hadith and yet one of them is closer to Jannah, the other is closer to Jahannam. This is because one of them is studying on order to become a prominent person in the society and a rich person and a judge, meanwhile the other is seeking the knowledge in order to become one the scholar among the scholars of the Ummah of the Messenger SAW and teach its people this knowledge.
Alhamdu-liLlah, we shall end here. May Allah SWA grant us beneficial knowledge, may He forgive us our sins and may He grant us Jannah.
But we shall take our next hadith for next week in shaa Allah
As-salamu alaykum wa Rahmatu-Llahi wa Barakatuhu
