ANAWAWI’S 40 HADITH.HADITH NUMBER 6

BRIEF EXPLANATION
As-salamu alaykum
In shaa Allah we will continue with hadith no 6 today
On the authority of an-Numan ibn Basheer (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, That which is lawful is clear and that which is unlawful is clear, and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which many people do not know. Thus he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honour, but he who falls into doubtful matters [eventually] falls into that which is unlawful, like the shepherd who pastures around a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. Truly every king has a sanctuary, and truly Allahs sanctuary is His prohibitions. Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh, which, if it be whole, all the body is whole, and which, if it is diseased, all of [the body] is diseased. Truly, it is the heart. [Al-Bukhari] [Muslim]

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The best of Praises and Thanks belong to Allah, the most worthy of the best of Praises and thanks. Praises that are superior to all other praises, like the superiority of Allah over His creatures. I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Prophet Muhammad SAW is His servant and Messenger. May the salutations and peace of Allah SWA be showered upon His noble Messenger SAW.
Indeed halal is clear and haram is also clear. Between halal and haram are deeds and affairs that are ambiguous or arent clear.
What is right(or permissible) is clear and everyone knows it or is aware of it. For example righteousness, giving of alms, wearing clothes tht have been prescribed in the religion.
Haram or what is prohibited is also clearand everyone knows it. And examples of prohibited things or wrong things are stealing, murder, fornication and the likes of it.
And the ambiguous stuffs or affairs are that which are in between. They are not known whether they are halal or they are haram. These ambiguous or doubtful matters are not known to a lot of people. This statement has been explained by our great Faqeeh Uthaymeen RA, that they are not known to a lot of people and they are at the same time known to a lot of people. So many people know these doubtful matters and many people do not know them.
Therefore it isnt that a lot or majority of men do not know it and that the remaining few know it.
 No.
And whosoever stays away from doubtful matters; meaning he tries his best not to associate himself with anything that has got to do with doubtful matters. He makes sure he does not engage himself in such things. He does not ask about them, he does not talk about them, he does not practice them.
Then he has cleared himself in regard to his religion and his honour, meaning he has claimed for himself innonence with regards to his religion, which is between him and his Lord SWA.
He has also cleared himself with regards to his honour, which is between him and other people. This is because, when it comes to doubtful matters, if a man mounts upon them it may lead to people losing the hionour they associated with him as a result of them always making statements concerning him due to his association with doubtful matters.
And anyone who falls into doubtful matters or ambiguous matters, by doing them and associating himself with them, he falls into haram. This statement can be categorized into two according our Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih:
The first of them being that the practice of doubtful matters is haram in itself.
The second being that it could lead to haram from the explanation of the Prophet SAW in his following statement that,  like the shepherd( herder of sheep, camel or cattle) who is herding his flock by around a sanctuary, a sanctuary which they could trespass or breach. Not because they want to or they wish to but as a result of their closeness to it and it appeal to them.
It is the same way that if a person plays around doubltful affairs, he will fall into them and it might not be initial intention to egange himself in them.
Every master, or every king or emperor has his limits, or sanctuary. And the limits of Allah are that which He has made prohibited. And indeed, in the body there is a morsel of flesh. Something small. If this flesh is good or is pure, the whole body is pure and if it is corrupted, the whole body is corrupted. This morsel of flesh is the heart.
Alhamdu-liLlah
We will end here
