DIVISION OF WATER

The sha'riah has divided water into four paths

 

1.MUTLAQ WATER

 

2. USED WATER FOR PURIFICATION

3. ATER MIXED WITH PURE ELEMENTS

 

4. WATER MIXED WITH IMPURE ELEMENTS

 It will be discussed separately in sha Allah but in today's session we will be discussing the first point which is

MUTLAQ WATER

 MUTLAQ WATER

This water is considered pure due to the inherent purity contained in it and as such an individual can use it to purify him or her self.

It's has also been categorized into the following.

 

A. RAIN WATER,, SNOW AND HAIL 

B. SEA WATER

C. WATER FROM THE WELL OF ZAMZAM

D. ALTERED WATER

RAIN WATER,,SNOW AND HAIL

These substances are said to be pure because Allah said it in surah al anfal verse 1  that  and sent down water from the sky upon you,that thereby He might purify you.Another verse in surah al furqan_ says that And we sent down purifying water from the sky upon you.

Aside these ayats from the Qur'an, the influential sahaba of the prophet pbuh (Abu Hurairah) also narated that the prophet pbuh used to be silent between the opening _takbir_ and the verbal Qur'anic recitation and he (Abu Hurairah asked the messenger that O messenger of Allah (pbuh) may my parents be sacrificed for you.Why do you remain silent between the opening takbir and the recital?  What do you silently say during that time? and He the prophet pbuh answered that I say O Allah make a distance between my sins and me like the distance you have between the EAST AND WEST_make me clean like a white garment and wash my sins with snow,,water and hail

SEA WATERS PURITY

Sea waters purity is based on the hadith of the influential Abu Hurairah may Allah be pleased with him.

He related that a man asked the prophet that O messenger of Allah upon whom be peace we sail to sea and we carry little quantity of water and should in case we use it for ablution we will have to go thirsty so may we use the sea water for performing ablution?

The messenger said the sea water is pure and its dead animals are also pure because they do not require any special slaughtering methods before eating.

WATER FROM THE WELL OF ZAMZAM_

Ali narrated the the prophet peace be upon Him request for a bucket of which it was filled with water from the well of *zamzam*.He drank and made ablution from the water that made His generations know that zamzam water is clean for ablution.

ALTERED WATER

This is actually talking about water that has being at a particular place for a very long time and or because of the place it is located or the water being mixed with substances that cannot be completely removed from it.  A typical example is water mixed with tree leaves and algae.

 

 

DIVISION OF WATER (PURIFICATION)... USED WATER & WATER MIXED WITH PURE ELEMENTS

USED WATER

 

This category refers to water which drips from a person after he performs ablution,,,wudu or ghusl

 

It is considered pure because it was pure before its use for ablution and there is no basis that shows that it has lost its purity.

 

This statement is supported by the hadith of *Rab'i bint Mu'azh* who describes the ablution of the prophet (S.A.W) .

She states that  (He wiped His head with the water, remaining on his hands from his ablution.

*_ABU DAOOD AND AHMAD ALSO NARRATED THIS HADITH._*

 

In the version of Abu Daood, He said the messenger of Allah upon whom be peace wiped His head with the remaining water from his hands..

 _Abu Huraira also said the messenger of Allah upon whom be peace met him on the streets of Madinah while he (Abu Hurairah ) was in post - sex impurity so he slipped away and quickly performed wudu and came to the prophet.

 

Abu Hurairah was asked by the prophet that where have u being..He replied ( I was in post sex impurity and didn't want to sit with you so i  went to perform ablution).

 

The messenger upon whom be peace said..._________________________.....

_GLORY  BE TO ALLAH FOR THE  BELIEVER DOES NOT BECOME IMPURE_

 

This theology is based on the point that ( a believer does not become impure) and since that a believer does not become impure then the water a believer uses to clean himself also does not become impure.

 *_WATER MIXED WITH PURE ELEMENTS_*

 

This category also consist of water mixed with elements like soap,saffron and so on.That is these elements are considered pure by the shari'ah.

The water is still pure since it has not being mixed with elements that will make it not to be called water.This water is pure but can not be used for purification.

 

Umm Atiyah narrated that the messenger upon whom be peace entered her house after the death of her daughter Zainab and said ,,,wash her three or five or more times---if you see fit to do so with dry tree leaves. For the final washing use some KAFOOR or something from KAFOOR..when finished inform me.

 

The deceased should be washed with something that may purify a living human (persons)..
