Assalamu alaikum
warahmatullah wabarakatuhu. All praises and thanks be to Allah subhaanahu
wataala, blessings and salutations upon the messenger of Allah Mohammed
Sallallahu alaihi wassalam his family, his companions and all of his followers may
Allah include us and our families Ameen.
Menstruation in simple terms
is the monthly flow of blood (as a result of unfertilized egg)experienced by
females in their reproductive age (the age ranges from 9 to 45 or more or less
depending on the physiology of the female).
In Islam, during this period,
the woman is exempted from a lot of activities such as Salat, Fasting,
circumambulation of the kaba, touching the Quran, entering the masjid, having
sexual intercourse.
However, she has to fast in
place of the days she missed during the month of Ramadan. Evidence of this can
obtained from several hadiths and that of the sexual intercourse from the Quran
Surah Baqara verse 222
Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 222:
And they ask you about menstruation.
Say: It is a discomfort; therefore keep aloof from the women during the
menstrual discharge and do not go near them until they have become clean; then
when they have cleansed themselves, go in to them as Allah has commanded you;
surely Allah loves those who turn much (to Him), and He loves those who purify
themselves.
(English - Shakir)
Being a woman myself, I know
how stressful this period usually is. Most women suffer from menstrual crumps
and this can be really painful (may Allah ease the pains of all ladies during
this period Aameen)
Now, if a muslimah in her
menses cannot offer salat, or fast, or circumambulate the kaaba, or touch the
Quran or enter the masjid, what should she do during this period to maintain
her closeness to her creator Allah azzawajal?
how does she keep herself
tidy throughout and after her menses?
In Shaa Allah by the end of
this presentation we should be able to answer these questions.
A muslimah during her menses
should engage herself in zikr and off head recitation of the Quran. For
instance, she can decide to recite verses of Quran at the time of each prayer
or she can do zikr at the time of each prayer or any other permissible form of
ibaada.
Or she can even listen to
recitations from her favorite Quranic reactors like Sheikh Sudais,
Shuraim,Shatir etc.
I would also recommend that
she keeps her body extra clean and healthy during this period. she can practice
the following;
1.Bath frequently (usually add cologne
in the water to be used for the bath).
2.Changethe pad as much as possible.
3.Wash our hands frequently especially
after handling our pads.
4.Dispose off the used sanitary pad
properly.
5.Eat food rich in protein and irons to
compensate for the loss.
6.Take enough rest.
We need to stay clean so that
we don’t make the people around us uncomfortable. Also, blood
is a suitable growth medium for a wide range of microorganism, therefore it is
necessary for us to be clean to save ourselves from contracting diseases.
The next thing I would like
to talk about is the mood of women during this period. Naturally during this
period, women are agitated😠 and they can be provoked😡 by even
the slightest issue due to several hormones produced by their body which is
mostly connected to the activities of the brain. I would therefore recommend
that a muslimah should seek more knowledge about her menses and know about all
these developments. She should as well educate the people around her especially
men so that they will take it easy on her during this period.
