KUSHOO/TOTAL SUBMISSION

Salam alaykum waramotullahi wabarakatu.

Brothers and sisters,

In shaa Allah we will be discussing an important topic today, topic: Kushoo

I am very sure that many of us might have heard about it while few may not. However, we will remind ourselves about *Kushoo* with proper understanding and in a simple way that will enhance benefits.

May Allah ease our affairs. Aameen.

Explanation on the topic.

Kushoo can be explained as the total submission, showing humility and wholeheartedly devotion during salat. This is perfect, but can also be applied during supplication.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah (رضي الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰعنه )said :

"The Messenger of ALLAH رســــول اللـــه صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ  prayed one day, then he finished and said: ' O so-and-so, why don't you offer Prayers well? Why doesn't the worshipper look at how he is praying when he prays? He is only praying for himself. By ALLAH, I can see behind me as well as I can see in front of me."

SAHIH MUSLIM Volume 1 hadith no 957 page no 542.

One of our Imam said " People are the same in health but when hardship befalls they show distinction."

(Hasan Basri).

This inspirational quote apply to Kushoo because many people among the Ummah find it difficult to compose themselves on salah during hardship. Many people neglect salah totally while some people force themselves to perform it with little or no devotion.

Some of us lost the state of Kushoo due to either negligence or ignorance by performing namaaz in our homes. Some find it difficult to pray in the masjid that they even separate a room and turn it to their prayer place instead of masjid.

Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasai and Ibn Majah report that Abdullah ibn Masud ؓرَضِي اَللَّهُ عَنْهُ  says,

I have seen our own in a condition where none would not stay away from Namaaz (Jamaat), except an open hypocrite, or one who was ill; and the condition of a person who was ill would be such that he would be brought to Namaaz walking between two people, (i.e. supported by two people). He further said, Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم  educated us in regards to the Sunan Al Huda (i.e. The Right Way of Guidance), and it is Sunan Al Huda to perform Namaaz in that Masjid wherein Azaan is called.

To perform namaaz in masjid assist a lot because the masjid is a place that is free from distraction and full of spirituality. This should be compared to a place where some people do not understand the Islamic perspective of animate picture. Such as hanging the picture of human beings, animals, birds and the like. Some of our homes are occupy with both Muslims and other religious people different from ours. Many may play music at the time of namaaz and this will contribute more to the lose of humility during salat.

"We have to be very careful and observe our namaaz as if there is no other good deed in Islam."

Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

It was said: what do you say concerning the prayer of one who has no Kushoo, does he have to repeat it or not?

He Replied:

With regard to whether it will count for the purposes of reward, it will not be counted,

except for [the parts] where one is focused and has the correct attitude of Kushoo

towards ones Lord."

Ibn Abbas said: You will gain nothing from your prayer except the parts where you

were focused.

In the Musnad it is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: A person may offer a prayer, and nothing will be recorded of it for him except half of it, or a third, or a quarter or a tenth.

Allaah has made the success of the worshipper in prayer dependent on his khushoo, and has indicated that the one who has no khushoo will not be among the successful, but if it is counted for him for the purpose of reward, he will be one of the successful. Many of us picturesque our problems during salat which diverts our attention from our Lord.

Some of us bring the burden of our business activities along to the place of salah and we don't know that it affects our worship.

Learn From This

Haatim al-Asamm (RA) was once asked how he performed his salah.

He replied: When the time for salah comes, I perform my wudu (ablution) and go to the place where I perform my salah. I sit down for some time, until all the parts of my body are relaxed. Then I stand up for salah, visualise the kabah 🕋 in front of me, imagining my feet upon the bridge over jahannam, with jannah to my right, and jahannam to my left, and Israeel (the angel of death) behind me, and think that it may be my last salah. Then I perform my salah with full sincerity and devotion. And I finish my salah between fear and hope of its acceptance.

Subhanallah! Imagine 🤔

Prophetic Cure To Attain Kushoo

A man came to the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me but make it concise. He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: *(1) When you stand to pray, pray like a man bidding farewell.* (2) Do not say anything for which you will have to apologize. (3) And give up hope for what other people have.’”

[Sunan Ibn Majah]

The question is, how many of us pray as if we bid farewell?

The day is still fresh in my memory. A day when I was leading a congregational prayer in one of the the evening prayer (magazine or isha) and busted into tears... after the completion of the namaaz, to my surprise my followers gave me the *Laqob* of *Karamoh (someone that exaggerates)*. Since that day till today

Sigh!

May Allah saves this Ummah.

We must have the fear of Allah at all times

I will like to end with a story talking about the fear of Allah

Once at the time of Hajj, there was a gathering in Mecca of some friends of Allah; the youngest among whom was Junaid Baghdadi (ra). In that gathering, there was a discussion on the subject of 'Love for Allah' and as to who is the lover of Allah. Many of them expressed their views on the subject, but Junaid (ra) kept quiet. He was pressed to say something.

With his head bowed down and tears in his eyes, he said,

"The lover of Allah is he who forgets his own self, remains engaged in Allah's remembrance with due regard to all its requirements; sees Allah with the eyes of his heart, which is burnt by the heat of Allah's fear; Allah's remembrance affects him like a cup of wine, he speaks the word of Allah as if All-Mighty Allah speaks through his mouth; if he moves, he does so under the command of Allah; he gets peace of mind only through the obedience of Allah; and when such a stage is reached, his eating, drinking, sleeping, awakening and, in short, all his actions are for the pleasure of Allah; he neither pays heed to the worldly customs, nor does he attach any importance to unfriendly criticism by people."

We can only achieved success in this world and in the hereafter through the mercy of Allah and not our efforts.

Because nowadays our aamals are done poorly but we should strive to improve it and hope for the mercy of Allah.

Angel Jibrail (as) told Rasulullah (peace be upon him) the follwing incident about a man in the past who worshipped Allah Ta'ala continuously for 500 years. He was granted a shelter on top of a mountain that was surrounded by salty water. However, Allah caused a stream of sweet water to flow through the mountain for that individual. The man would drink from this water and use it to make ablution. Allah Ta'ala also raised a pomegranate tree from which the man would eat one fruit every day.

One day, this person supplicated to Allah that, "Oh Allah, bring my death while I am in the state of prostration." Allah accepted this dua of his. Whenever Jibrail (as) came down to the Earth, he found this man prostrating to Allah. Jibrail (as) said that on the day of Judgement, Allah will tell the angels to take this individual to Paradise through His mercy. However, this man will insist that he should enter paradise through the good deeds that he had performed.

Then, Allah will tell the angels to compare his good deeds with the blessings that were given to him in the world. It will be seen that 500 years of his worship does not even equal to the gift of eye sight that was given to him by Allah. The angels will be asked to take him towards the hell fire. Then the man will plead, "Oh Allah! Enter me into Paradise only through Your mercy." At that point, the following discussion will take place between Allah and that man.

Allah: Oh my servant, who created you?

The worshipper: Oh Allah, You have created me.

Allah: Were you created because of the good deeds you have done or because of My mercy?

The worshipper: Because of Your mercy.

Allah: Who granted you the ability to worship for 500 years?

The worshipper: Oh the Almighty! You have granted me that ability.

Allah: Who placed you on the mountain surrounded by the ocean? Who caused a stream of sweet water to flow in between the salty water? Who caused a pomegranate tree to grow for you? Who granted you death while in the state of prostration?

The worshipper: Oh the Sustainer of the Worlds! You have done all of these.

Then Allah will say, "All these have happened due to My mercy and you too will enter Paradise only through My Mercy."

We can never thank Allah for the blessings that He has given us. Let us use these blessings to recognize Allah before our death.

With this we say "Subhanaka Allahumoh wabihamdika ash adu an laahilaha ila Anta astagfiruka wa atubu ilayk.

 Wa Salam alaykum waramotullahi wabarakatu.
