Abdul-Nasir
As salaamu alaikum warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuhu brothers
and sisters in eemaan
We send salutations to best of creation and Allaah's most
beloved messenger محمد صلي الله عليه وسلم
, his household, his companions and all rightly guided ummah.
Alhamdulillaah for Allaah granting us the opportunity to be
counted among the living, not because we are better than the deceased but
Allaah's own will to give us life. We are indeed thankful to الله عزوجل for His mercies upon us.
We have been been tasked to present on *How To Be Healthy
and Its Effects on Worshipping Allaah*. We shall do so in the best of our
capacity in shaa Allaah, but will plead with the ummaah to pardon us wherever
we will go wrong since we are still in the process of learning.
Our presentation shall be more of science/health terms than
aayaat and hadith in shaa Allaah*
We shall however be available for questioning for scientific
terminologies we don't understand in shaa Allaah.
Being Healthy should be of a great concern to the Muslim as
a slave will be deficient in his ibaadat to his Creator if his/her health
fails.
It stands on a number of points to be healthy
```Some of which include:```
✅ ```The food
we eat and what we drink ```
✅
```Excersing the body
✅
```Spiritual healing ```
✅ ```What we
wear and our surroundings(Personal Hygiene) ```
among others
In essence, the above contribute to our well being and that
also influences how we worship Allaah S.W.T._
_If we are sick, how strong will we be to worship Allaah?
*Think about it* 🤔🤔
1. THE FOOD WE EAT AND WHAT WE DRINK
Food is what our body needs to give us energy, build us and
*protect us from diseases*. Did you observe how weak you are to perform
ibaadaat when you go for days without food and water ?
Protective foods mostly include fruits and vegetables
These food groups strengthen our immune system to fight
against diseases thereby keeping us health.
Are we following please?
These food groups strengthen our immune system to fight
against diseases thereby keeping us health.
There are a number of foods and drinks recommended to us
by رسول اللہ صلي الله عليه وسلم to
protect us against diseases.
How to eat these foods and what not to eat to enhance good
health have also been taught in the Prophetic teachings of Rasuulullaah S.A.W.
```One of the
greatest practices that is good for health and will protect good health against
diseases is avoiding overeating, and the prohibition on being extravagant and
overindulging in food. At-Tirmidhi (2380) narrated that Miqdaam ibn Ma‘di Karib said: I heard the
Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say: “The son of Adam does not fill
any vessel worse than his stomach. It is enough for the son of Adam to eat a
few mouthfuls to keep him going, but if he must (fill his stomach), then one
third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for air.”
Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh
at-Tirmidhi.```
```Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him)
said:```
```This is one of the most beneficial practices in both
physical and spiritual terms, because if the stomach is filled with food, there
is no room for drink, then if that food is followed by drink, there will be no
room for air, and he will become tired like one who carries a heavy load. This
is in addition to what results from that of spiritual damage, as it will make
one too lazy to do acts of worship, and it will stir up physical desires as a
result of eating one’s fill.
Therefore filling the stomach with food is harmful in both spiritual and
physical terms.```
How many times do we eat a day now and what do we eat in
keeping our bodies healthy?
We eat very heavy and sleep with it_
❌ We take any new drink without knowing its constituent
nutrients
❌ We eat excessive fatty foods and fried foods that are not
easily digestible
❌ Hardly do we consider fruits in our diets
❌ We appreciate plenty red meat than we will include cabbage,
carrot, lettuce in our diets etc
When you take 3 heavy balls of banku how can you wake up to
perform your nawaafil?
Most of our sisters 👭 do well to subsidize the food
they eat, what of the brothers ?_
Sisters on campuses do well to include vegetables in their meals.
Let's ask the brothers.
Let a brother get his tinned tomatoes, oil, pepper, salt.......ayoo.....
Stew is ready.
How will you be healthy my brother?
2. EXERCISING THE BODY
FORMS OF EXERCISING THE BODY
Strength Training
```Strength training keeps your muscles toned. It can also
build them up (bodybuilding).
To become stronger,
your muscles need to work against some kind of resistance. This causes them to
contract, and the more they work by contracting, the stronger you get and the
healthier you become.```
Resistance Training
```If practiced safely, weight training is a great way to
build strength and endurance. Unlike aerobic training, resistance training
helps build more muscle mass by creating small micro tears in the muscle. New
muscle grows back over the tears, and the muscle becomes stronger.```
*NB* _Consult a doctor before starting weight training._
``` There are two main types of weight training:```
*free weights* and
*weight machines*.
_Free Weights_
```You can use free weights such as hand weights and bar
bells to work a group of muscles. Free weights sometimes require more strength
than weight machines, so you should make sure you choose a weight you can
handle, and use a spotter.```
Weight machines_
```Usually work a single muscle or a smaller group of
muscles. Be sure to use extreme caution when using weight machines. Make sure
that your hands and legs do not get caught in the machine. Have a fitness
trainer show you how to use the machine.```
Other Resistance Training*
```You can also use your own weight to build muscle.
Exercises such as push-ups or sit-ups use your body weight to build muscle. You
can also use resistance bands.```
Safety note
```Be sure to talk to a fitness trainer before starting
weight training.```
Here are some basic rules for beginners:
Jog for five to ten minutes before you begin to warm up._
Stretch after you warm up.
Train at most two to three times a week for the first few weeks.
Don't lift weights that you have to strain to lift. You will
feel very sore after the first few weight-lifting sessions.
Only work one or two different muscle groups each workout.
Allow a day of rest for each muscle group after each workout.
Stretch and cool down after each workout to reduce soreness
afterwards.
Pay attention to nutrition and make sure you're
eating right.
Important
If you feel a sharp pain or a "pop" while
exercising, stop immediately and consult a trainer or coach before continuing.
FLEXIBILITY
```While strong muscles are important for movement,
flexibility allows you to move your muscles and joints through the full range
of motion. Being flexible also helps reduce the chance of muscle injury.
Ideally, stretching should be done before and after other types of
exercise.```
```Stretching can feel great, but as with other physical
activity, if you do it incorrectly you can hurt yourself.```
ENDURANCE: AEROBIC EXERCISE
```Endurance refers to how long you can keep performing an
activity without tiring. Aerobic exercise strengthens your heart and lungs,
which in turn increases your endurance. It is also the best type of activity
for burning calories and fat, and can help reduce your risk for diabetes,
heart disease, and high blood pressure. ```
```On the days you take a break from weight training, focus
on aerobic exercise such as:```
➡ Running
➡ Biking
➡ Swimming ,
or
➡ Rowing
_Teens should engage in 60 minutes of vigorous physical
exercise each day._
*Good activities for building aerobic fitness include:*
🔹 Walking 🚶
🔹 Slide and step aerobics
🔹 Water aerobics
🔹Running or jogging
🔹Bicycling
🔹Cross-country
🔹 skiing
🔹Swimming
_You can also incorporate aerobic activity into your daily
activities.
There are some of here who have never fallen into water
before.
Be honest and just show your hand up that you ever went
swimming?
Excersing as a means of keeping fit has a direct effect on
the individual and the likes of the healthy in doing ibaadah is not same as the
unhealthy.
Some advantages of exercising are as follows:
Reduce your risk of heart disease naturally.
```Get out of the medicine cabinet and reduce your risk of heart diseases the natural way.
A meta-review of a variety of studies and trials conducted
by researchers in 2013 —
encompassing 305 trials with more than 339,000 participants — found that no statistically detectable differences
existed between those who exercised and those who were
given medications in the prevention of coronary heart disease and prediabetes.
In fact, in those patients who already had suffered a
stroke, physical activity interventions were more effective than drug
treatment. Work with your doctor to set up an exercise plan that works for
you.```
2⃣ _Get an
energy boost_
```When you’re
feeling exhausted, the last thing you might want to do is squeeze in a workout.
But, according to experts, that’s
exactly what you should do. They found that low-intensity exercise, the
equivalent of a leisurely stroll, experienced a drop in fatigue
levels and a 20 percent energy boost.
Even more exciting is that the low-intensity exercise
group's fatigue levels dropped more than the higher-intensity group, great news
for those who might skip a workout because they don’t have time or energy for a more intense session.
Both groups reported steadily increased energy over the span of the six-week
experiment.```
3⃣ _Increase
strength and flexibility_
``If strength training and stretching aren’t a part of your fitness routine, it’s time to incorporate them.
Though many adults engage in cardio activities, quite a few stay away from
resistance training and building muscle —
and that’s a mistake.
Strength training, whether you’re lifting weights, doing bodyweight exercises or
incorporating yoga moves, helps improve muscle strength and muscle mass,
particularly important as we age. It also keeps bones strong, thus serving as a
great natural treatment for osteoporosis. Plus, increased muscle helps
your body burn calories more efficiently long after your workout is over.
And don’t forget
about stretching: It increases your body's flexibility, helping everyday
tasks become easier. It also sends more blood to your muscles, improving
circulation, and can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. Just a few
minutes a day of deep stretching can make a difference.```
4⃣ Improve memory
```Are you constantly misplacing your keys or struggling to
recall names?🤔🤔 Exercising regularly can help jog your memory.
A 2014 study found that aerobic exercise, like running or swimming, boosts
the size of hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for memory and
learning, in women with a recognized risk factor for dementia. Besides looking
to brain food to boost your memory and mental skills, start breaking a
sweat!```
5⃣
_Perform better at work_
```Could the key to being more productive and happier at
work lie in exercise? One study thinks so. It found that those employees who
worked out before work or during their lunch hour reported feeling stress
and being happier than days when they skipped a workout. Not only that, but
they also performed better on exercise days. It’s the perfect excuse for a lunchtime stroll or
walking meeting.```
6⃣ _Increase
self-confidence_
```Feeling down on yourself? Exercising can help you
feel better about yourself — no matter
what type of workout you do or how fit you are. One study found that “the simple act of exercise and
not fitness itself can convince you that you look better", With so much
emphasis on our outward appearances in society today, it’s comforting to know that one of the benefits of
exercise helps people feel better about themselves and how they look
naturally.```
7⃣ _Become
less susceptible to disease_
```From fortifying your immune system against future
cancers to reducing the risk of breast cancers, regular exercise helps protect
your body. Although researchers aren't entirely sure how exercise boosts
immunity, theories range from bacteria being flushed out of the body to a
reduction in stress-released hormones that might increase the risk of illness.
While we wait for the science to catch up, it’s clear that engaging in
moderate to intense exercise benefits your body in ways we’re not even sure of yet.```
other advantages are
It helps in easy
blood circulation through our bodies.
🔹 _It helps melting down bad cholesterol that clings
inside our blood vessels thereby reducing the risk of High Blood Pressure._
🔹 _It helps in burning excess fats that build up in
our bodies thereby preventing and reducing obesity and other sicknesses related
to obesity._
🔹 _It helps in easing digestion, absorption and assimilation._
🔹 _It increases appetite. ETC
Majority of our sisters 👭 are however very less
likely to engage in exercise
What most sisters do is eat, drink the piled drinks in their
lockers, watch movies and sleep 😴 ?_
My sister, start a workout to keep yourself fit to worship
Allaah.
Once I heard_ *but I'm not fat, so why should I exercise?*
Who told you excersing is for the fat people?
Some give excuses_ *I walk 🚶 a lot a day so I don't
need to exercise.*
No please*......... _exercises are of different forms,
walking might be to workout around your feet.
You must exercise your waist, your neck etc.
3. SPIRITUAL HEALING
Aside what we eat and drink and the exercises we make, one of the most important avenues of living a
healthy life from the almighty Allaah, جل
جلاله . We live in a world of different creatures and evil 😈 ones which
seeks not the best for us._
Should we not seek guidance from Allaah S.W.T in fact we can never oppose them by our
strength.
May Allaah SWT protect as from those evil forces.
We wouldn't go much into spiritual protection as that must
be treated by EXPERT in that field in shaa Allaah_
The last part (Personal Hygiene) as a means of Healthy
living shall be treated someone other time in shaa Allaah for it is lengthy and
time will not permit us._
All the mistakes you realized were due to our flaws as
humans. Those that were in line were as a result of Allaah's guidance.
Forgive us for our mistakes. May Allaah pardon us all.
_Till we meet again in the evening in shaa Allaah._
Was salaamu alaikum warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuhu brothers
and sisters in eemaan
