DUA
Assalamualaikumwarahmatullahiwabarakatuhu
my respected brothers and sisters
Alhamdulillah wassalatu
was salaam alaarasulillahiwaba'ad
I want to after thanking
Allah and sending salutation to the messenger apologize for the late start of
my presentation. Hope brothers will forgive me for that. In the next
30-60minutes we shall be looking at the concept of dua'a in the life of the
Muslim. We pray to Allah for guidance and sincerity of our intention.
A brief introduction to
the concept of dua'a
Dua'a literally implies
to call or invoke.Conventionally imam al khattabirahimahullahuta'ala says dua'a
implies a servant invoking Allah for help, by way of showing ones weakness and
inability to harm nor benefit him or herself in anyway.
The Quran gives different
meanings to the word dua'a among which is:
1. Alistigatha :Appealing
for aid.
In suratulan'am verse 40-41 Allah says "
40. Say, "Have you
considered if there came to you the punishment of AllAh or there came to you
the Hour – is it other than Allah you
would invoke, if you should be truthful?"
41. No, it is Him [alone]
you would invoke, and He would remove that for which you invoked Him if He
willed, and you would forget what you associate [with Him].
That is man at the time
of calamity. Now the second meaning it implies based on the context is;
Al ibadah: worshipAllah
azzawajalla says in surantulA'arafvs 194 and kahf 28 respectively
"194. Indeed, those
you [polytheists] call upon besides Allah are servants [i.e., creations] like
you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be
truthful"
"28. And keep
yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon(worship) their Lord in the
morning and the evening, seeking His countenance. And let not your eyes pass
beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose
heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and
whose affair is ever [in] neglect."
One might be tempted to
say, but those things they call besides Allah, answer them..... So what
The answer is that Allah
says in suratunisaa whoever goes against the messenger after the truth had
become evident to him,we shall make that we he took as an ally be with him and
at the end We shall admit him into jahannam. Save us yaa Allah.
Now let's proceed with
the Quranic definition of dua'a
Dua'a could also mean to
proclaim or to invite as in suratulIsra'avs 52 and All Qasas 25
Allah says
"52. On the Day He
will call you and you will respond with praise of Him and think that you had
not remained [in the world] except for a little."
25. Then one of the two
women came to him walking with shyness.
She said, "Indeed,
my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us."
And last on our list of
Qur'anic definitions
And finally dua'a could
mean to beseach or implore as stated in the Quran suratulGhafirvrs 60 and
baqarah 186
"60. And your Lord
says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who
disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible. Ghafir
"186. And when My
servants ask you, [O Muúammad],
concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond
to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond
to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided."
Al baqarah
Now with all the above
definitions given from the Qur'an, that which would take center stage in our
presentation is the last definition, thus, to beseech or call upon Allah.
Reading carefully through
the last two verses it becomes clear to us that making duaa is a command from
Allah and therfore it's an act of worship. And all acts of worship have their
prescriptions made by Allah or our beloved Mohammad on should be Allah's peace
and blessings. Which when we follow judiciously we'll have cure of the
following
1. Prevention of
destruction
2. Protection against
disapointment
3.it's a means through
which one attains goodness
4.means to relief one of
stress and burden.
5. Means to victory
6.means for elevation of
status in this dunya and akhira as well......and above all
7.it gives one the
ability to get closer to Allahujallajalaaluh.
8. By making dua'a, one
is fulfilling one of Allah's commandment.
9. Easy way to jannah
10. characteristic of the
inhabitants of jannah
11. Good in every sense.
12. Reverses
destiny...... Yes it does
We shall end here and
continue another time in Shaa Allah
