Phases of Menstruation

This is in accordance with the 28days cycle.

Has four stages namely:

🔲Menstrual, 🔲proliferative, 🔲ovulation and 🔲secretory.

🔲Menstrual phase usually lasts for 3 - 5 days were there is shedding of the functional layer of the endometrium in the form of blood.

🔲Proliferative or follicular phase occurs within the 7th - 14th day of the menstrual  cycle.

what happens here

During this period, estrogen acts on the endometrium to cause regeneration of the functional layer through hypertrophy and hyperplasia (increase in size and cells) respectively.

🔲Ovulatory phase usually occurs on the 14th day day of the menstrual cycle with others experiencing it on the 15th day.

This phase involves the rupture of a  graafian follicle to release a matured egg.

🔲Secretory or Luteal phase occurs within the 15th - 28th day of the cycle where progesterone acts on the endometrium to make it well nourished and prepared for implantation
