Phases of Menstruation
This is in accordance
with the 28days cycle.
Has four stages namely:
🔲Menstrual, 🔲proliferative,
🔲ovulation and 🔲secretory.
🔲Menstrual phase
usually lasts for 3 - 5 days were there is shedding of the functional layer of
the endometrium in the form of blood.
🔲Proliferative or
follicular phase occurs within the 7th - 14th day of the menstrual cycle.
what happens here❓
During this period, estrogen acts on the
endometrium to cause regeneration of the functional layer through hypertrophy
and hyperplasia (increase in size and cells) respectively.
🔲Ovulatory phase
usually occurs on the 14th day day of the menstrual cycle with others
experiencing it on the 15th day.
This phase involves the
rupture of a graafian follicle to release
a matured egg.
🔲Secretory or
Luteal phase occurs within the 15th - 28th day of the cycle where progesterone
acts on the endometrium to make it well nourished and prepared for implantation
