Evil Eye complete
In the Name of Allah, the
most Gracious, the most Merciful. The best of Praises are due to Allah the most
Worthy of the best Praises. Praises that are superior to all kinds of praise
like the superiority of Allah over His creatures. He is the one who has created
man from clay and created jinn from a smokeless flame of fire. We ask Allah the
most High to send His peace and Salutations upon His Noble Prophet SAW, his
household, his companions and the entire Muslim Ummah till the day when there
shall be no shade except the Shade of the Most Merciful. We ask Allah the most
High to forgive us our sins and make us beneficiaries of this presentation.
Servants of Allah, indeed
Allah the most high created mankind to come and worship Him. Before Allah
created mankind He created jinn kind with the same purposes to come and worship
him. Allah mentioned this in the Quran, “And
I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”
As Muslims servants of
Allah we need to believe in the existence of the unseen. That there exist other
creatures apart from that which we see. These creatures are the angels and then
the jinns. The messenger of Allah SAW, in a hadith narrated by Umar bin
al-Khattab, was visited by the arch angel Jibril AS and among the things that
ensued between them was the question on Eeman. The Prophet SAW replied, “to believe in Allah, His angels, His books,
His messengers, the last day, and to believe in destiny whether good or bad.”
From this we learn that
it is incumbent upon of the believer to believe in the existence of Angels
though we cannot see them. One might believe in the existence of Allah SWA even
though he does not see Allah but for that belief to be complete or at least a
step towards completion, one has to believe in the existence of angels. Servant
of Allah, it is again incumbent upon the believer to believe in the existence
of jinns which has also been stated in the Quran in numerous place. None of us
can and will ever see a jinn but they exist and we as Muslims believe that they
exist because it has been explicitly stated in the books of Allah SWA and who
is more truthful in speech than Allah the most High.
Servants of Allah, we
need to know that we are not the only creatures that exist in this world. There
are jinns that also exist in this world. They live in communities just as we
live together in communities. They coexist and socialize like we do. They marry
give birth and also die just as we do. Just that they live longer than us. They
are stronger than us. They are more intelligent than us. They possess certain
characteristics and attributes we as human beings do not possess. Sometimes I
tell myself, “it is good we human beings
do not possess some of the characteristics of the jinn else the world would be
in a worse situation than it is in currently.”
But Allah knows best servants of Allah. The message of Allah was not sent to
just human beings but they were sent to the jinn as well. So just as we have
believers and disbelievers in the human world we also have believers and
disbelievers in the world of jinn.
Allah says about the jinn
in some parts of the Qur’an,
“And
[mention, O Muhammad SAW], when We directed you to a few of the jinn, listening
to the Quran. And when they attended it, they say, “listen
quietly.” And when it was concluded,
they went back to their people as warners.”
In suratul jinn verses 1
and 2, “Say, [O Muhammad SAW], it
has been revealed to me that a group of jinn listened and said, ‘Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur’an. It guides to the right course and we have
believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.”
Servants of Allah of
Allah it is not an alienated fact that the world is progressing at a very high
rate. And as the world progresses, we encounter numerous advantages and
disadvantages. This progress world we
find ourselves in has made the access to all kinds of things very easy. So easy
that all one needs to do is tap a few keys and voila you have what you want
right in front of you. This brings about the metaphor, ‘a
few keys of taps away from you’.
Knowledge has become abundant but we do not seek it. We seek that which is
evil. But that’s not the focus of our
discussion today.
The emergence of
technology has eradicated or at least bridge the gap of many nations and states
in the world. This is not the only effect that technology has had on us
servants of Allah. One of the most devastating effect of this technology which
has been caused via social media is the eradication of privacy. Social media
has stripped the veil of shyness from most of our youth and even some our
parents who we expected to advise us but they are rather trying to be like us
in disobeying Allah the most High. The world has become such that everyone wants
to broadcast whatever he or she is doing. Social media has served as a catalyst
of Riya in the society we find ourselves in now. A person goes for hajj and the
whole world would know about it. A person give charity and the whole world will
know about it. A person will build a masjid or sponsor someone and the whole
world will know about it. Servants of Allah these actions will not only nullify
our deeds but they also will bring upon us another problem which is actually
our focus today. One of the characteristics of the pious predecessors was that
when they did a good deed they did not want anyone to know about it. Allah give
us a clear example of it in the Quran with His Noble Prophet Zakariyya AS when
he called unto his Lord in secrecy and privacy. Today people perform Tahajjud
and they put it on social media. We give khutbah and the whole world knows that
we are now scholars and Imams. May Allah purify our intentions.
Servants of Allah, just
as people put their acts of worship on show, other peoples also put their evil
lifestyle and also their private lives on show for everyone to see. As a
result, we do not only incur the anger of Allah, we also incur upon us the
effect of evil eye. We put everything we do in our lives on social media and
then we begin to get affected spiritually as a result of the that. What hurts
me most servants of Allah is when a mother or a father gives birth and then
puts in on social media for the entire world including the world of jinns to
see. Firstly, you haven’t
sought the protection of Allah for this innocent baby and secondly, you are
launching him into the pack of wolves to devour him. May Allah safeguard us.
Now to our topic for
tonight, Evil Eye.
What is evil eye?
Evil eye refers to when a
person harms another with his eye. it starts when a person sees something and
he likes it. His evil feelings then
affect by his repeated looking at that thing out of jealousy. Allah commanded
His Prophet SAW to seek refuge with Him from the envier as Allah said, “And from the evil of the envier when he
envies.”
Servants of Allah the
first step of item or object in the process of afflicting evil eye on a person
is the sight. And then jealousy. Why would a person be jealous with you in the
first place? I will tell you servants of Allah, he will be jealous of you when
you have a baby and then you put it out there for everyone including the
magician in some other part of the world see. they will be jealous of you when
you have graduated and you want everyone to know you have graduated so you put
into Facebook for all of us to see.
The evil eye is like an
arrow which comes from the soul of the one who envies towards the one who is
envied. Sometimes it hits him and at other time it misses. Servants of Allah
from this we learn that one does not need to possess a special power in other
cast the evil eye on another person. If the one upon whom the evil eye is cast
is exposed and unprotected, it will affect him, but if he is armed and
protected, the arrow will miss him and may even come back on the one who
launched it. [adapted from islamqa.info/en from Zaad al-Ma’aad].
So we find a young girl
in a community. This girl is known for her promiscuity in the society. Everyone
knows that this girl will jump into the bed of any irresponsible man in the
society. But you look into the background of the young girl and her father is
an upright person though her mother in not that inclined towards the deen (she
is more interested in the dunya than the akhira) or the vice versa. People will
rebuke this lady and still she won’t
change. This, servants of Allah, is a scenario of a lady who has been afflicted
by the evil eye. It could be that her mother’s
friend or even her own friend at school saw her beautiful hair and that lead to
the evil eye was placed on her. This is just an example of one of the numerous
things that lead to evil eye being placed on us if we fail to protect
ourselves.
Servants of Allah, one
does not need even need to be evil or bad person to cause place evil eye. In a
moment of admiration, a little spark of envy can make even your well-wisher to
cast the evil eye on you without knowing or even intending evil.
Let’s take some ahadith on evil eye,
Imam Ahmad narrated that
Asmabint‘Umays said, “O Messenger of Allah SAW, the children of J’afar have been afflicted but the evil eye,
shall we recite ruqyah for them?”
He said, “Yes, for if anything were to
overtake the divine decree it would be the evil eye.”
Servants of Allah, as
Muslims it is our responsibility to protect ourselves from the evil eye. One of
the ways we should do that is to keep private that which is supposed to be
private. We make that which is between us and Allah to remain that way. There
are numerous supplications the Messenger of Allah SAW taught we need to learn
those supplications and recite them regularly. One of them is, “A’oodhu
bi kalimatiLlahi–t-taammaati min
sharrimaakhalaqa” I seek refuge of Allah from
the evil of that which He has created.
And never think that
because you have made the supplications you can go about broadcasting your
secret life and put everything about you on social media. You need to tie your
camel and the make dua’a
to Allah to protect it. You are only going to be like a farmer who decides not
to fence his farm just because he made dua’a.
Servants of Allah, the
Messenger of Allah SAW advised us that when anyone of us sees something he
likes, he should make dua’a
for that thing or that person. Good dua’a
of course.
Let’s take note servant of Allah. Anyone can
afflict you with the evil eye even your parents, spouses and relatives.
May Allah protect us from
all evil.
