RELATIONSHIP WITH THE QURAN
In the Name of Allah, the
most Gracious the most Merciful.
Indeed, the best of
Praises and thanks belong to Allah, the most worthy. Praises that are superior
to all kinds of praise like the superiority of Allah over His creatures. I
testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah SWA and that
Muhammad SAW is His slave and messenger. We ask Allah to send His peace and
salutations upon our Noble Prophet SAW, his household, his companions and the
entire Ummah as long clouds come before rain and thunder comes after
lightening.
Allah SWA stated in the
glorious Quran, “This is the book whereof
there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are pious.”
Allah SWA again states, “…and We have sent down to you the Book as an
exposition for everything, a guidance, a mercy and glad tidings for those who
have submitted themselves (to Allah SWA).”Nahl

Servants of Allah, we
thank Allah for granting us life. We again thank Him for making us Muslims.
Servants of Allah, we thank Allah for everything. In our previous session we
talked about our relationship with Allah and we virtually ended it. In actual
sense we haven’t ended it because all other
things that we are still going to discuss constitute our relationship with
Allah SWA. Even this presentation we are having is also a way of establishing
good relationship with Allah SWA. Today we shall begin with our relationship
with the Quran. I will try to make it as brief as possible.
Servants of Allah, we all
know what the Qur’an. The Quran is the word of
Allah which He sent with/via His arch angel, Angel Jibril AS, to His Noble
Prophet SAW, in the a clear and simple language so that He SAW will become a
warner to the entire humanity. It was sent to aid them in each and everything
that they need in terms of goodness of their religion and goodness of their
worldly affairs. The Qur’an
is the word of Allah in all of its forms. It is the word of Allah in the form
of recitation when a servant opens his mouth to recite it. It is the word of
Allah in the form of Books which have been oriented and we call them Mushaf. It
is still the word of Allah as it has been memorized into the soul of a
believer. “Falsehood cannot come to it
from before it or behind it: (it is) sent down by the All-Wise, Worthy of Allah
Praise.”
That is the Qur’an, servant of Allah. Let’s etch into our minds. Jibril AS asked the
Messenger of Allah SAW about Eeman and the Prophet replied, “to believe in Allah and His angels and His
books…”
Servants of Allah, as
Muslims and believers of the statement of Tawheed we need to ensure that we
believe in the Books of Allah. And the Quran is the book of Allah whose absence
in your articles of faith renders you as a disbeliever. Servants of Allah how
do we establish a good relationship with the Quran?
A’isha
RA, the mother of the believers was asked concerning the Prophet’s SAW character and she responded, “the Quran.”
This means that
everything about the Prophet and the way he SAW lived was centered around the
Quran. This has been confirmed in the opening of verses of suratu-n-najm when
Allah said he SAW doesn’t
say anything of his own desire but they are revelations from Allah to him. To
the extent that there were times when the Prophet SAW would tell the companions
his opinion about something and they would ask if it was a command from Allah
or his own opinion as a human being like them. Allahu Akbar. Servants of Allah
how do we establish a good relationship with the Quran. We start by learning it
wholeheartedly. We learn as if our lives depend on it and actually our loves do
depend on it. Not only our lives but also our deaths and also our situations
after our death and also our situations on the day of Qiyamah. That is, it
shouldn’t be a wonder to any of us
when we hear the narration of the Prophet SAW in which we are made aware of the
fact that Quran would be a shade for the people of Quran on the day of Qiyama.
Servants of Allah the Prophet SAW is not with us today to tell us about people
who have been granted Jannah even before their death but Allah has made it
known to us by virtue of the way some people die that these people are the
people of Jannah. And one of the ways Allah does that is to let us witness or see
people dying whiles reciting the Quran. We know of scholars from Nigeria one of
them who is ShaykhJa’afar who died whiles
reciting the Quran in Salat. My own grandfather when he was on his sick bed to
his students and close friends of his that he is just praying to Allah to take
his life on Monday or Thursday evening. Allah called him on a Thursday night.
And on Friday the streets of Tema was filled with human beings and not cars.
Everybody had to walk to the cemetery because the people had taken over the
streets. These are the people of the Quran. Servants of Allah another man died
whiles reciting suratulQamar and his last verse was “Then
he invoked his Lord saying, “I
have been overcome, so help me!”
Servants of Allah, this
was the statement of Nuh AS when he was overcome by his people who refused to
heed to the call of Allah SWA. But for this dying man it is his call to Allah
as he has been overcome by the pangs of death and he is calling Allah to help
him with the same words AnnabiNuh used to ask Allah. Servants of Allah what a
great favour has been bestowed upon this man. Allah will indeed come to his aid
and grant him Jannah. May Allah grant us Jannah. These people had a good
relationship with the Quran. So as I said, we need to first learn the Quran by
heart and the strive to memorize it. But servants of Allah, the hafidhisn’t just the one who has committed the whole
Quran word by word into his memory. Wallahi. The hafidh is the one who has
learnt the Quran, memorized it and then works with it even if it is just one
word. So just imagine if you memorize the entire Quran and work with it.
Servants of Allah, we all become happy when we hear from our loved ones. We
wish we would see them each and every day and that we will talk to them all the
time. Why then don’t we read the Quran each and
every day as well. Why don’t
we read the Quran anytime we feel sad or anxious or disturbed? We prefer to
listen to the speech of man most of which are useless than to listen to the
speech of Allah the most High. We can never establish a good relationship with
the Quran and Allah if we are not frequent reciters and readers of the Quran.
When we are in Salah we need to listen to what the Imam is reciting. Allah has
a solution for that problem you are facing and that solution is right in our
rooms but we only open it during Ramadhan.
If you wont to have goodness in your life and your deen then make the
Quran, your friend. We hear people who claim to love scholars. People who claim
to love others just because of how dedicated they are to the deen. We have
sisters who even fall in love with brothers just because they are good at
reciting the Quran. Just that and nothing else. Yet they are running away from
the exact reason why they are in love with these brothers and sisters. We need
to begin our quest to establish a good relationship with the Quran which is the
word of Allah and that will lead us to establish a good relationship with the
Creator Himself. We should learn the Quran and then work with it. We should try
to propagate what we learn. Servants of Allah the best way to propagate what we
learn in the deen is to make sure it reflects in our lives.
Servants of Allah, if we
are able to establish a good relationship with the Quran we will be able to
take huge strides to becoming true believers and what are one of the signs that
will show we are true believers and that we have a good relationship with the
Quran?
Allah says, “The believer is those who, when Allah is
mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when His verses are recited to them,
they increase their faith; and they put their trust in their Lord (alone)'al-Anfal 2.
And when we become true
believer’s o servants of Allah, we
will realize that our source of true happiness, happiness that never fades,
happiness that can’t be compared to any kind of
happiness will be Allah SWA for Allah the Absolutely Truthful has said that, “verily, in the remembrance of Allah does the
heart find tranquility.”
May Allah make us of
those who find tranquility and true happiness in His remembrance.
As-salamualaykum.
